AMERICAN BANDSTAND GETS A
MODERN FACELIFT!

E
ver heard the story of the Little
Red Hen? Well, this is not that
story. This is the story of a little
Kitty Cat who had a grand vision and
found that there did, indeed, exist others
willing to help him achieve it. The brain-
child of local artist Jared ‘kitty cat’ McKin-
ley became reality, Saturday, January
2nd, 2009 at Rialto Theater, when his
newly formed group Powhaus Produc-
tions, put on a terminally hip and fashion-
able Rock n Roll dance party and Variety
show called Clusterf**k.

“I had this idea around ten years ago

and didn’t find the support, I needed to
make it happen”, said McKinley in a brief
telephone interview. He added that if it
were not for many people’s volunteered support, it never would have happened.
McKinley was especially thankful for the support and artistic license given him

ers, drive through the space and he was like, yeah sure; that’s kinda
weird, but okay.” laughed McKinley.

While, Powhaus Productions came together with the help

of many, non paid artists & friends, the anchors are ‘Kitty
Cat,’ Nadine Roselle and Clif Taylor. Desert Diamond
Dallas, also a major force in the core group was re-
cruited for her larger than life, talented and outgoing
persona; she is also responsible for conceiving the
name, Powhaus.

Clif Taylor is known for his documentary, ‘Fuzz’;
an in-depth look at the industry of noise making
in which he explores ‘a unique subculture of
psychedelic noise freaks and vintage distortion
connoisseurs’. [ http://www.fuzzthemovie.com]
Also known as Chick Cashman Clif was the
frontman for the Countrypolitans, a band said
to successfully meld surf with smoky jazz, and
blues with hints of glam. Taylor as Cashman, has
been observed as a Warhol Superstar, as com-
fortable in a wig and cosmetics as he was in his
more hetero garb, at Powhaus’ Clusterfuck.
Chick and the Countrypolitans kept a strong
fan base in Tucson for nearly three years as they
set up weekly residence at Club Congress, until
2000 when the banddisbanded and Cashman
went back to being known as Clifton Taylor.

Sparks, Roxy Music and an assortment of
the excesses of the 70’s-gender expansion,
space invasion and the all the best in music
are among the jewels promised for the
night. DJ Dan Shapiro will again be spin-
ning the tunes and live music will be pro-
vided by: Silver Fox, Ultramaroon, and
Cadillac Steakhouse. Doors open at the
Rialto Theater at 9:00 and the live show be-
gins around 11:00pm. For a mere $3, you
are guaranteed a fabulous evening of
dancing, schmoozing, and general may-
hem. Hand silk screened T-shirts will also be
available from the eclectic and ultra hip
artists that pulled this event together
Powhaus will also be working in conjunc-
tion with the Tucson Museum of Art in host-
ing an Andy Warhol Factory themed party
on February 26th. The exhibit: Andy
Warhol Portfolios: Life & Legends will fea-
ture prints such as Birmingham Race Riot
and the full portfolio of Campbell’s
Soup II along with other Warhol
works from the Bank of America

on TV.

Powhaus parties will usually be at the Rialto,

but they may do other smaller events, such
as a 70’s Yacht Rock party themed house
party for, close friend, Kenny Stewarts, says
McKinley. Most of the promotion, network-
ing and advertising for Clusterf**k and

out. Maloney’s offers good food,
drinks, entertainment and dancing.  A
mix of patrons at Maloney’s, features a
preferred frat/sorority house hang out
crowd.  Beer pong weekly and a mix
of music and movies playing on various
televisions throughout.  Apparently a
theme of esthetics with no point to
anything but still coming out looking
very nice.  The actual bar as well as
closing music is pretty obviously

acts.  Perfect place to drink yourself

happen to overdo it a little or a lot.

District Tavern.  A very entertaining

in town featuring beer from SKA Brew-
ing.

made with pure Agave and several
other specialty ingredients will
change the way you see a mar-
garita.

The only problem with Fender Skirts is that
there aren’t any snacks available. This hap-
pens to be a major failure because the
bar’s sign outside reads: “Food-Fuel- Fun.”
A bar with such friendly employees and
the familiarity between customers would
become even more welcoming with the
ability to kick back and enjoy some wings
or cheese sticks.

Ultimately, Fender Skirts ranks highly among

local bars with the wide range of activities
that are offered, the generous prices, the
welcoming staff, the consistent music, and
the random stripper-pole in the middle of
the dance-floor.

the MERRY KISS-MISS show
with Tucson’s own Kiss tribute
band Wasted Aces. It was a
most excellent time begin-
ning with a karaoke contest
