 Many types of batteries are used as
portable energy source in electrical and
electronic appliances to increase the
convenience of our everyday life
 The disposal of chemical cells will
increase ecological pollution and is
hazardous to human health
 The best method to dispose chemical cells
is to recycle them
Electrolysis of molten Lead (II) Bromide
Proses elektrolisis bagi leburan Plumbum
(II) Bromida
 Solid lead (II) bromide does not allow
electric current to flow through because
there are no free moving ions in the
substance
 Molten (leburan) lead (II) bromide allows
electricity current to flow through because
there are free moving ions in the molten
state
 Duringelectrolysis, discharge of ions occurs at
the anode and the cathode.

 Equation at the cathode

 Lead ions + electrons lead atoms
 Product at the cathode
• Lead precipitate (shiny grey)

 Equation at the anode

 Bromine ion – electron  bromine atom
 Bromine atom + bromine atom  bromine gas
 Product at the anode
• Bromine gas (brown colour)
