Definition of Anger

Muftī Ahmad Yār Khān Na’eemī states:

Anger is an instinct of one’s self that compels an individual to avenge another person or
drive him away.1

Reward for one who controls his anger

The Beloved Master of Both Worlds şallAllāhu álayhi wa sallam said:

The one who controls his anger, even though he was able to take revenge, Allah will
sanctify his heart with His Divine pleasure on the Day of Judgement.2

It is stated in another Hadīth that an individual who controls his anger despite being capable of
acting upon it, Allāh Almighty will fill his heart with tranquillity and faith.3 Meaning if one is
caused harm, and he is able to retaliate but for the sake of earning the pleasure of Allah Almighty
one controls his anger, Allah Almighty will grant peace and fill one’s heart with the light of faith.

Sayyidunā Abu Darda rađiyAllāhu ánhu states I asked the Beloved Messenger of Allah şallAllāhu
álayhi wa sallam, 'Ya RasûlAllâh şallAllāhu álayhi wa sallam! Inform me of a deed that will lead me
to Jannah.' The Beloved Messenger of Allah şallAllāhu álayhi wa sallam said, 'Avoid anger and
Jannah will be yours.' [laa tagdhub wa-la-kal jannah]4

It is stated in Imām al-Bukharī's, Sahīh:

The strong is not one who is able to take down his opponent, rather one who is able to
control his anger.5

How to deal with one who severs ties

It is stated in Jamī Us-Saghīr:

Re-attach ties with one who severs ties. [sil mann qataka].6
