By the grace of Almighty Allāh, we have been

honoured to enter the blessed month of Sha’bān

Al-Muazzam which holds an auspicious night with
great significance for all Muslims. It is on the 15th
Sha’bān when our book of deeds is presented to
Almighty Allāh and when it is decided who will live
and die in the following year. Laylatul-Bara'ah (the
night of salvation) was loved by the Messenger of
Allāh ‫ ﷺ‬and as such it becomes incumbent upon us
to love it too. It is a night for individual and
collective worship giving us an opportunity to
create an amazing spiritual atmosphere in our
homes.

I urge all my brothers and sisters to take heed of

what will be discussed in this book. This night is not
a night for idle behaviour, rather, it is a time for us
to worship Almighty Allāh and to prepare ourselves
spiritually, mentally and physically for the blessed
month of Ramadān which is fast approaching.
For us to attain maximum benefit from the night
of salvation, we must ensure that we do not
engage in impermissible actions during this night
and use it as an opportunity to reconnect ourselves
with Almighty Allāh and His Rasool ‫ﷺ‬.We must
make firm intentions on this night that we will
refrain from committing any sins and make
sincere dua that Almighty Allāh accepts our
worship tonight and allows us to reach Ramadān.

Insha'Allāh I will outline how we can prepare for this

night and how we can spend it in worship as well as
preparing for Ramadān. Recite the 6 special litanies
for tonight and make this a memorable night for you
and your family by worshipping Almighty Allāh
together. I sincerely pray that Almighty Allāh
showers his mercy upon us all, protects us from all
calamities and forgives all our shortcomings. Ameen.
The preparation for this night begins before
Maghrib Salah enters on the 14th Sha’bān. The
following should be done:
1. Make sincere Tauba (repentance)
As a starting point, make a sincere Tauba (fulfilling
its four prerequisites) to Almighty Allāh for all the
major and minor sins you have committed in the
past. Tauba is between you and Almighty Allāh and
an opportunity to sincerely turn back to Him and
beg for His forgiveness. Go into this night with a
clean slate. Almighty Allāh states in the Holy
Qur’ān, “People who Believe! Incline towards Allāh
in a repentance that becomes a guidance forthe
future; it is likely that your Lord will relieve you of
your sins and admit you into Gardens beneath
which rivers flow.” [Sūrah Tehrīm, v.8].

Kanz ul Huda has made the practical method of

Tauba in accordance with its pre-requisites simple
to memorise, just remember the acronym PRAN:

P – Past sin. When a sin has been committed, you

must accept and acknowledge that you have
transgressed against Almighty Allāh and then
make Tauba from that sin of the past. Repentance
from possible future sins is regarded as Taqwa and
is not technically Tauba. Tauba is only for sins
committed in the past.

R – Remorse. You must show remorse when

repenting to Almighty Allāh. Do your best to shed
tears at the thought of how you have disgraced
yourself in front of Almighty Allāh repeatedly, yet
He still showered His mercy upon you. If you
cannot cry, then imitate a crying person.
RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬said, "Two eyes will never be
touched by the fire of Hell; an eye which weeps
out of fear of Allāh and an eye which spends the
night in guarding in the cause of Allāh.'' [At-
Tirmidhi].
A – Allāh’s sake. If you want your repentance to
be accepted, it must be solely for the sake of
Almighty Allāh. There must be no worldly benefit
involved except that you are repenting to please
Almighty Allāh alone.

N – Never again. Make a firm intention to never

commit the same sin again.

2. Reconcile with enemies

Once you have repented from not fulfilling

HuqūqAllāh (rights of Allāh) then you must turn
towards Huqūq al-Ibād (rights of people).
Sayyiduna Muadh bin Jabl (Radi'Allāhu Anhu)
narrates that the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said, “Allāh turns his
attention to all his creatures on the night of the
middle of Sha’bān and forgives all his creation,
except the Mushrik (polytheist) and the one who
bears malice (to his brother).” [Tabrāni and Sahih
Ibn Hibān]

Sayyidah ‘Aisha (Radi'Allāhu Anha) narrates that

RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬said that Jibrael (Alaihis Salaam)
came to Him and said, “The night of the middle of
Sha’bān, it is upon Allāh to release in it from Hell
so many people as equal to the number of hair of
the sheep of Banu Kalb. However, Allāh will not
look at the one who associates anything with Him,
the one who bears malice towards anyone, the one
who cuts relations with others, the one who drags
his lower garments below the ankles (out ofpride),
the one who disobeys parents and an addict of
wine.” [Bayhaqi]

This is the night where we can gain the special

observation of Almighty Allāh if we refrain from the
points stated in the above narrations. This is the
night of salvation from the fire of Hell, it is the night
for attaining the Ma’rifah (spiritual closeness)
of Almighty Allāh, so every one of us must take
precaution in refraining from all impermissible
actions. Let us remove all arrogance from our
hearts and seek the forgiveness from those whom
we have severed our ties with.

The importance of this has also been emphasised

by the great Mujadid, Imam Ahmad Rida Khan
(Rahimahullah) in a letter he wrote to one of his
disciples, he says:
“Shab-e-Bara’at is near. In this night, the deeds of
all servants are presented to Almighty Allāh. For
the sake of the Most Dignified Messenger ‫ﷺ‬,
Almighty Allāh forgives the sins of Muslims,
however, Almighty Allāh addresses those Muslims
who have a mutual tension due to worldly reasons
by saying, “Leave them as they are until they do not
mend their relations.” We should mend relations
before the sunset of 14th Sha’bān. Offer each
other’s rights or otherwise forgive them so that
(with the permission of Almighty Allāh) when the
book of deeds is presented to Almighty Allāh, it is
clean from the sins pertaining to violating public
rights.

For violating the rights of Allāh Almighty, a ‘true

repentance’ is sufficient. RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬said,
“Whosoever repents from his sins, is as though he
didn’t commit the sin in the first place.” [ibn Majah].
If one acts upon this and with this condition (by the
permission of Almighty Allāh) there is a strong
hope of complete forgiveness and salvation,
provided his beliefs are correct.
The sunnah of reconciliation and creating unity
between brothers in Islam, also pardoning or
begging pardon for violated rights, is
Alhamdulillah, continuously running here year
after year. I hope that you will inculcate this good
practice upon the Muslims and hence act in
accordance with this narration:
“Whoever starts a good thing and is followed by
others, will have his own reward and a reward
equal to that of those who follow him, without it
detracting from their reward in any way.” [Tirmidhi]
Pray for this beggar's salvation and for his
prosperity in both worlds. This beggar supplicates
and will continue to supplicate for you
(Insha'Allāh). Reconcile, unite, and forgive each
other truly and whole-heartedly because an
insincere tongue and hypocrisy are disliked in the
court of Allāh Almighty.
- Faqir Ahmad Rida Qadri from Bareilly
May Almighty Allāh give us the ability to forgive
others so that we may attain His forgiveness.
Ameen.

NOTE:
It is important for me to mention that certain
actions should be prioritised especially in
preparation and during this blessed night. A lot of
people solely focus on spiritual litanies but
neglect those actions that hold a higher priority.
As mentioned above, this includes making sincere
Tauba, reconciling ties of kinship and fulfilling
your Qadha (missed Faraidh - obligatory actions).
Those of you who have not started to make up
your Qadha prayers, then you must make a start
tonight preferably before Maghrib Salah enters.

Recite the following in abundance

1. Astaghfirullah rabbi min kulli zambin wa

atoobu ilaih

6 main litanies to recite during this night:

1. Salawāt Khadhiriyyah

2. Salāt at-Tauba

3. Salāt at-Tasbīh

4. Salāt al-Hājah

5. Qur’ān Recitation and recommended litanies

6. Special Salawāt for protection and cure from

diseases and illnesses as well as other litanies.

Salawāt Khadhiriyyah
Salawāt Khadhiriyyah is to be read x313 either
collectively with your family (to increase barakah
and love between you all) or individually with full
concentration:

2. Salāt at-Tauba
RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬said, “If anyone who commits a sin,
stands up, purifies himself, offers Salah and seeks
forgiveness of Allāh, then Allāh surely forgives him.”
[Tirmidhi, Abi Dawood, Nasai]

RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬then recited this verse of the

Qur’ān from Sūrah Al Imran, v.135:

َُ َّ ‫ين إ َذإ فَ َعلوإُ فَ ٰـ ِحشَ ةُ َأ ْوُ َظلَم ٓوإُ َأنف َسه ُْم َذ َكروإُ أ‬

ِ
“And those who, when they commit an immoral
act or wrong themselves, remember Allāh and
seek forgiveness of their sins - and who forgives
sins except Allāh? And those who do not purposely
become stubborn regarding what they did.”

Sayyiduna Ibn Buraydah (Radi'Allāhu Anhu) states

that his father narrated that one morning
RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬called Sayyiduna Bilal (Radi'Allāhu
Anhu) and said, “With which deed were you ahead
of me in Jannah. I entered Paradise last night and I
heard your footsteps ahead of me.” He said, “O
Messenger ‫ﷺ‬, never have I committed a sin without
offering two Rak’ah (afterwards) and never has my
ablution become void but I have made a fresh
ablution immediately and offered two Rak’ah.”
[Tirmidhi]
My dear brothers and sisters, this is the time for us
to turn back to Almighty Allāh and seek his
forgiveness in the form of praying two Rak’ah. We
are all sinners, but this will be a means for our
salvation Insha'Allāh. Remember, if we repent
sincerely not only will Almighty Allāh forgive us,
but He will change those sins into good deeds. This
is also a time for us to reflect on our own spiritual
states and embark on the Tazkiyyah Course
(details for which can be found on the Kanz ul
Huda website or in my book titled,“Introduction to
Spiritual Development”)
Method:

Recite two Nafl with the sole intention of Tauba

and upon conclusion make sincere dua shedding
tears for forgiveness in accordance with the four
pre-requisites (PRAN).

Salat at-Tasbīh
Sayyiduna Ikrimah (Radi'Allāhu Anhu) reports that
Ibn Abbas (Radi'Allāhu Anhuma) narrated that
RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬once said to Abbas (Radi'Allāhu Anhu),
“O Abbas! O Uncle! Shall I not give you and shall I
not present you and shall I not inform you and shall
I not bless you with ten things which if you do Allāh
will forgive you your sins. The first and the last,
the past and present, unintentionaland deliberate,
minor and major, secret and open. The ten things
are: You pray four Rak’ah reciting in each the
Fātihatul kitab and a Sūrah. When you finish the
recital in the first Rak’ah say while you are standing
15 times:

ِ ِ
Then go in Ruku’ and repeat the same words while
you are in Ruku’ 10 times, then raise your head from
the Ruku’ and repeat them 10 times, then when you
go into prostration and while you are in prostration
repeat them 10 times, then raise your head from
the prostration and repeat them 10 times and again
go into prostration and repeat 10 times, raise your
head from prostration and repeat 10 times. This is
75 times in every Rak’ah. Observe this in the 4
Rak’ah and if you can pray this salah once every day
then do it. If not then once every Friday, if not then
once every month, if not then once every year. If
not, then once in your lifetime. [Abu Dawood and
Ibn Majah]. Imam Tabraani narrated this with the
additional words, “if your sins are like the foam of
the seas or particles of dust Allāh will forgive you.”

It is also mentioned in the narration of Imam Hakim

that RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬gave this salah as a gift to his
cousin, Sayyiduna Jafar bin Abi Talib (Radi'Allāhu
Anhu). In that version the following words were
added to the Tasbīh,

ِ
The above is one version of how to read Salat at-
Tasbīh. The other method of Salat at-Tasbīh is that
after the Thana (SubhanakAllāh Hummah wa bi
Hamddika…) but before the recitation of Ta’awuz
and Fātiha you recite the Tasbīh 15 times. Then
after the Fātiha and Sūrah recite it 10 times, then
continue with the previous method but after the
second sajdah you don’t sit and read the Tasbīh nor
is it recited with the Tashahud (Attahiyaat). It can
be read both ways.

After mentioning the above ahadith we

recommend the following method:
Step 1: Make an intention for Salāt at-Tasbīh of 4
Rak’ah Nafl
Step 2: After Thana but before Ta’awuz recite the
Tasbīh x15
Step 3: Recite Sūrah Fātiha and a Sūrah then recite
the Tasbīh x10
Step 4: Go into Ruku’ and after completing Ruku’
in the bowing position recite the Tasbīh x10
Step 5: Stand up from Ruku’ and after reciting
‘…Walakal Hamd’ then recite the Tasbīh x10

Step 6: After completing first Sajdah recite the

Tasbīh x10
Step 7: Sit back up then recite the Tasbīh x10

Step 8: Complete the second Sajdah and then

recite the Tasbīh x10
Step 9: Repeat in all 4 Rak’ah. The Tasbīh will be
recited a total of 75 times.
Notes:

• In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Rak’ah remember to

recite the Tasbīh x15 before reciting Sūrah
Fātiha.

• After Sūrah Fātiha the recommended Sūrahs

are as follows: Sūrah Hadīd, Sūrah Jumu’ah,
Sūrah Taghābun and Sūrah Hashr.
o However, in some narrations it is
mentioned that one can recite Sūrahs to
the equivalent of 20 verses.
o Some other recommended Sūrahs are:
Sūrah Zalzalah, Sūrah Ādiyat, Sūrah
Tākathur, Sūrah Asr, Sūrah Kāfirun, Sūrah
Nasr and Sūrah Ikhlās. These are
recommendations, however, if one does
not know these Sūrahs then in Nafl
worship it is sufficient even if Sūrah Ikhlās
is recited in every Rak’ah.

• You should not articulate verbally how many

times you have read the Tasbīh as that
invalidates the prayer. Closing the fingers one
by one is permissible but Makrūh. The best
method is to keep your fingers where they are
but to keep pressing them one by one to keep
count.

• Salātul Tasbīh can be offered at anytime

during the day and night other than Makrūh
times. Imam Taqiuddin Subki (Rahimahullah)
says, “This prayer is very important; one should
not be deceived due to the denial of some
people. Those who are aware of the great
virtues and excellences of this prayer but are
still negligent, are from those who are lazy
regarding their Deen and are away from the
path of the pious.” According to a narration of
Mirqāt, Sayyiduna ibn Abbas (Radi'Allāhu
Anhuma) performed this every Friday.

• Imam Hakim says that one of the proofs for the

authenticity of the Hadith for Salātul Tasbīh is
that from the time of Taba’ Tabaiīn until our
time it has been performed by great people
and they guided others towards it. From
amongst these great people is Abdullah ibn
Mubarak (Radi'Allāhu Anhu) who is from the
teachers of Imam Bukhari (Rahimahullah).

During this night we should offer Salātul Tasbīh

and benefit from its great virtues. Make a firm
intention of performing this regularly to attain
purification from all sins, protections from all
calamities, illnesses and hardships of the Dunyā
and Ākhira.
Sālat al-Hājah
Sayyiduna Abdullah Abu Awfa (Radi'Allāhu Anhu)
narrates that the Messenger of Allāh ‫ ﷺ‬said,
“Whoever has a need from Allāh or one of the
children of Adam let him make wudu, doing it well,
and offer 2 Rak’ah salah. Then he should glorify
Allāh and send Salawāt upon the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬and
then recite:

ِ
“There is no god but Allāh The Clement, The
Bountiful. Glory be to Allāh, Lord of the Mighty
Throne. All praise belongs to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.
I ask you for that which qualifies me foryour
mercy, the strong means to your forgiveness,
abundant portion of every piety and safety from every
sin. Leave no sin of mine without forgiving it. No
anxiety without removing it and no need thatis
pleasing to you without fulfilling it. O the most
merciful of those who show mercy. [Tirmidhi and
Ibn Majah]
In the narration of Ibn Majah – the addition is that
RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬stated that, “Should the person
make prayer for the affairs of this world and the
next and whatever else he wishes, indeed, Allāh
will fulfil them.”
Method:
Recite two Nafl with the sole intention for fulfilling
your needs and make sincere Dua for acceptance.
One of the best times to do this is on this
auspicious night. It is a night when Almighty
Allāh’s mercy is close to us and His special
observation is with us. Insha'Allāh by performing
this Salah, it will fulfil our permissible desires. It is
desirable to make Dua for the protection and well-
being of the ummah, your family members,
protection of your children, blessing in sustenance,
remaining guided on the right path, life and death
upon Imān, salvation in the hereafter and
attainment of the Ma’rifah of Almighty Allāh and
true love of RasoolAllāh ‫ﷺ‬.
Recitation of the Qur’ān with
recommended litanies and supplications:
Depending on the time that remains in the night
you should recite as much Qur’ān as possible
either collectively as a family or individually.
Qur’ān:
• Recite the last 2 ayahs of Sūrah Baqarah. It
comes in a hadith, “Whoever recites the last 2
ayahs of Sūrah Baqarah at night they are
sufficient for him.” [Tirmidhi]
o These 2 ayahs are also recommended for
the house to be protected from attacks of
evil satanic forces. In another Hadith it is
stated, “Learn these ayahs, teach your
wives and daughters, they are salah,
Qur’ān and dua.” [Hakim]
• If possible, recite the following Sūrahs:
o Sūrah Fātiha at least x7

o Sūrah Kahf (at least first 10 ayahs and last

10 ayahs if not the full Sūrah)

o Sūrah Dukhān x7. With the blessings of

this, Almighty Allāh will fulfil 70 Needs of
Dunyā and 70 needs of the Hereafter.

o Sūrah Mulk x1

o Sūrah Qadr x1

o Sūrah Tākathur x1

o Sūrah Kauthar x1

o Sūrah Kāfirun x1

o Sūrah Ikhlās x3

o Ayatul Kursi x1
Litanies and Supplications

• Supplication of the night of Mid Sha’bān:

• Continuously recite:

ِ
“O Allāh, You are pardoning and You love to
pardon, so pardon me.” This is a special
supplication for this night.

• Try your best to recite the following 10 times:

Salawāt before and after:

َُّ ‫إل‬
ُ‫ل َُّه َأ ْص ِل ُْح ُأ َّم َُة م َح َّمدُ إللَّه َُّم فَ ي ِر ُْج َع ْنُ ُأ َّم ُِة م َح َّمدُ إللَّه َّمُ ْإر َح ْمُ ُأ َّم َةُ م َح َّمد‬

“O Allāh improve the state of the Ummah of

Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬, O Allāh grant ease to the Ummah of
Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬,O Allāh have mercy on the Ummahof
Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬.”

Once this has been completed perform Īsal al

Thawāb by sending the rewards to RasoolAllāh ‫ﷺ‬,
the Prophets (Alaihimus Salaam), Ahlul Bayt,
Sahaba, Pious Predecessors, all Awliya Allāh
especially the Mashaikh from whichever Tarīqa you
belong to and your deceased family members and
friends. May Almighty Allāh be pleased with them
all.
After this make Dua that Almighty Allāh accepts
our worship, thanking him for blessing us with this
night and to bless us with Ramadān.

Special Salawāt and Litanies for protection

Given the current testing times we are in, we seek
Almighty Allāh’s protection. The following duasare
for protection from all diseases, illnesses and
calamities.
• Recite this Salawāt 4 times daily. This will keep
you protected from viruses, plagues and
diseases that give pain. It is recommended for
this special night to recite it x313, however, if
you do not have time then recite it a minimum
of x11.

• Recite the following in abundance. Whoever

recites this after Fajr 3 times will be protected
from mental illnesses, skin problems, eyesight
issues and paralysis. This is recommended on
special nights for protection from diseases.

• Recite the following for protection and cure
from physical illnesses. This is narrated in the
Hadith of Abu Dawood to recite x3 in the
morning and x3 in the evening:
ِ ِ ِ ِ

• Recite this in abundance during this night and

generally for protection from disease.

• Recite this in abundance during this night and
generally any time during the day.

Fasting on 15th Sha’bān

Other than Ramadān, RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬would fast the

most in the month of Sha’bān, therefore, it is highly
recommended to fast as much as possible during
this month.

Amīr-ul-Mu’minēn Sayyiduna ‘Ali (KaṙamAllāh

Wajhul Kareem) has reported that the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
said, “When the 15th night of Sha’bān arrives, stand
(for worship) in the night and fast during the day.
Indeed, Almighty Allāh reveals a special Divine
Manifestation on the sky above the earth from the
time of sunset and announces, “Is there anyone
seeking forgiveness so that I may forgive him? Is
there anyone seeking sustenance so that I may grant
him sustenance? Is there anyone afflicted so that I
may relieve his affliction? Is there so and so...”
Almighty Allāh continues to announce this until the
time of Fajr. [Ibn Majah]

Preparation for Ramadān

Let us remind ourselves that it is in this noble month
that we should be preparing ourselves physically,
mentally and spiritually for the blessed month of
Ramadān. We should increase in our voluntary fasts
especially in this month due to its virtues. Sayyiduna
Usamah bin Zaid (Radi'Allāhu Anhu) stated, “O
Messenger of Allāh ‫ﷺ‬, I do not see you fasting any
month as much as Sha’bān.” RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬said,
“That is a month to which people do not pay much
attention, between Rajab and Ramadān. It is a month
in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the
worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I
am fasting.” [An-Nasai]

Take heed to what RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬is saying; “that is a

month to which people do not pay much attention”.
One of the primary reasons for this is that they do not
understand the rank of this month and the benefits
that it holds for Muslims. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬created a
personal relationship with Ramadān and the build up
to that was the month of Sha’bān. It is important to
note that the Prophet ‫’ﷺ‬s relationship with Ramadān
did not begin when it became an obligation upon us,
He ‫ ﷺ‬had a connection with Ramadān much before
this. The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬loved the month of Ramadān and
would always make dua for its attainment. Imam
Tabrāni states that as soon as RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬would
see the moon of the month of Rajab, he would make
the following dua:

“O Allāh make Rajab and Sha’bān blessed for us and

grant us Ramadān.”
When was the last time that we asked Almighty Allāh
to bless us with Ramadān? May Almighty Allāh forgive
us! Many do not even look forward to the month as it
will mean entailing hunger, thirst and tiredness. The
Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬would actively make dua to be part of
Ramadān, therefore, we should be asking Almighty
Allāh for life and death within this noble month.

RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬would prepare for the month of

Ramadān in Sha’bān. It was narrated by Sayyidah
‘Aisha (Radi'Allāhu Anha) that the month in which
RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬would fast the most was in Sha’bān.
One of the wisdoms of this is that this month includes
the night of Bara’ah (15th Sha’bān) in which deeds are
presented in the court of Almighty Allāh. RasoolAllāh
‫ ﷺ‬wanted his deeds to be presented to Almighty Allāh
in the state of fasting as mentioned in the hadith.
Another wisdom which the Muhadithoon have
mentioned is that RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬would prepare in the
month Sha’bān because Sha’bān is the forerunner for
Ramadān, therefore, its actions should be emulated in
this month. The same way praying Sunnah prayers
prepares one for the Fard prayer, the month of
Sha’bān prepares one for Ramadān. Sayyidah Aisha
(Radi'Allāhu Anha) narrates that, “The Prophet ‫ﷺ‬
used to safeguard the month of Sha’bān more than he
safeguarded any other month.” RasoolAllāh ‫ ﷺ‬would
prepare for the month of Ramadān in Sha’bān, but
today which one of us considers these preparations?
We must seriously question our intentions and
ourselves.

The Sahaba were great practitioners of this, Sayyiduna

Anas (Radi'Allāhu Anhu) narrates that, “As soon as the
month of Sha’bān entered the Muslims would turn
towards the Qur'an. They would also take out their
Zakah from their wealth and strengthen the poor and
destitute for fasts of Ramadān.” These are those same
companions who would spend six months supplicating
to Almighty Allāh to be blessed with the month of
Ramadān and the remaining six months (including
Ramadān) supplicating for its acceptance.
Reflect on all the things that we prepare for Dunya and
how much time and effort we put into it. Think about
your wedding or a siblings wedding. They are planned
for months or even years in advance. Why is this? It is
because it is supposed to be the happiest day of their
lives, they want the day to be completely perfect. Here
Almighty Allāh is giving us the happiest month of our
lives, not just once but every year, yet we let it go to
waste and fail to prepare for it.

A person who has booked an expensive holiday wishes

for every moment to be cherished due to the time,
effort and money spent on it. That person will ensure
that every landmark, every beach and every place of
interest is researched before they travel so that no
time is wasted when they arrive. If someone was to
tell that person to do all this preparation when they
arrive at their destination, they will be told that they
did not book a holiday to waste time preparing for it
when they get there but rather to cherish every
moment they have there.

Why are we not preparing for the month of Ramadān

the way we would prepare for our wedding or
holidays? Perhaps we believe that our holiday or
wedding is a once in a lifetime opportunity, therefore,
it mandates all this planning. Many say, “Ramadān
comes every year, I will prepare next year!” How
ignorant of us! How can we say this with such
confidence as though our next breath is guaranteed let
alone being blessed with another year for Ramadān.

Every aspect of our lives requires planning and the

month of Ramadān is no different. Imagine you were
to run a marathon, if you were to fail in your
preparations and consider yourself ready without any
training you may do excellent in the first 10 minutes,
however, you will soon become exhausted as your
body is not used to the endurance required for a full
marathon. This is what we often observe in the month
of Ramadān. Due to our negligence and failure to plan
and train for this month, the first few days of Ramadān
are often filled with great motivation with the Masājid
full. However, we slowly see the number of people
begin to dwindle due to them not having the physical,
mental and spiritual endurance to last the full 30 days
of Ramadān.

Now is the time to prepare for the month of Ramadān,

if we haven’t started already. If we have been blessed
with Laylatul Bara’ah, then consider this a gift from
Almighty Allāh to set you on the road to Ramadān.

Ramadān Plan
My respected reader, we have been honoured with
Sha’bān and whilst we have been blessed with this
month, we still don’t know if we will be blessed with
Ramadān. Let us not waste a single moment in
preparing for the blessed month and let us avoid using
our time idly. Here are my tips on how to maximise
rewards in Ramadān:

1. Set yourself SMART (Specific, Measurable,

Attainable, Relevant, Timebound) goals on what
you want to achieve in the month of Ramadān.
Set yourself targets on the amount of Qur’ān you
will recite daily, the Islamic books your will read,
the jurisprudential rulings you will learn and the
chapters of the Qur’ān you will memorise.

2. Spend quality time with your children and family.

Ramadān is not only about your own worship but
also about collective worship. Encourage your
children to be involved in the Islamic activities
you partake in and create their love for Ramadān
from a young age.

3. Change Your Environment. Where you spend

your time has an impact on your productivity.
Many people will find it hard to concentrate on an
important task in their bedroom. The reason
being is that it is designated for sleeping so
naturally one begins to feel lethargic there. Make
a specific place in your house where you will
worship Almighty Allāh and do your Islamic
practices. This should be a clean, pure place
where you can get away from the distraction of
Dunya and use it to confide in Almighty Allāh.

Dear reader, as Ramadān approaches study my

work published by Kanz ul Huda, “Living
Ramadān” which is my personal comprehensive
action plan for Ramadān illustrating clear goals
to achieve within Ramadān in light of Al-Qur’ān.
It gives you a practical guide to attain Taqwa in
the month of Ramadān which is then used to
protect ourselves against Satan for the
remaining months. Remember, if you fail to
prepare, then you are preparing to fail.
Ramadān is the month where your good deeds
are multiplied, so, make the most of it.
May Almighty Allāh give us all the ability to
implement the content of this book into practice and
utilise the night of salvation and the remainder of
this blessed month to not only prepare ourselves
for Ramadān but to also change our lives and our
connection positively with Almighty Allah and the
Prophet ‫ﷺ‬. Ameen.
