SCHOOL BUILDING NAMES COMMITTEE

The School Building Names committee is an advisory study committee

to the School Board, and is therefore considered a public body for legal
purposes.

Nominations for Community Members

Nominations for community individual or group members should be

submitted in writing, identifying the group (if a representative of a
group) or the background of the individual, the relevance of the group
to the task of selecting names, and or the individual’s relevant
expertise.

If the number of nominations of equally well-qualified community

representatives exceeds the number of positions on the committee and
a choice among nominees is necessary, the Superintendent will consider
the following in making the determination: the goal of having a diversity
of groups represented on the committee, the interest and expertise
identified in the nominations, the order in which nominations were
made, and any experience in serving on prior naming committees.

Staff Support for the Committee

The Clerk of the School Board and the Director of Communications will
provide support and assistance to the committee by issuing press
releases and written invitations to members of the public, to civic,
business, and neighborhood groups, and to other boards, commissions
and organizations in Falls Church, inviting suggestions for the name of
the school building consistent with School Board policy. Such
suggestions in writing (including e-mail), will be forwarded to the
committee.
