CENTRAL ASIA

I taught a lot, but I learned a TON.!

God led me to crazy places and allowed
me to teach people twice my age.! It
was so encouraging and humbling to
live among the believers in Central
Asia.! They have been through many
trials but, still stand strong in the Lord
because of the peace and the freedom
that He has given them.

What do YOU do on Friday Nights?

I was greatly impacted by the hunger for Gods Word we encountered in a city in Central Asia. We were asked to teach the Inductive Method of Bible Study through
Philemon and Ephesians over the course of several evenings. The second evening we planned to take half an hour to finish teaching the application portion of the
book of Philemon and then begin Ephesians, but Gods agenda ended up being different from ours. What was supposed to be half an hour on Philemon became a
two hour teaching where God moved in the students lives. After I showed examples of how to draw Application from the text, I encouraged the students to try this
on their own. Their eyes were opened in ways that excited and motivated them. One leader of the church told me that she had studied this book over and over but
had never seen that there were so many things to apply. She asked me if using the Inductive Method of Bible study would help her find similar amounts of
application in the rest of the Bible. I told her that it did for me, and I believe that it would for her too.
The whole house group was so excited about the Inductive Method and how it opened up the book to them, that before we knew it, the time was 9:15pm and class
should have ended. We jokingly told them that we could still start with Ephesians if they wanted, but there was no joking with them! They said they were ready to
start. Instead of being done for the night we kept on going for another two hours- until 11 pm on a Friday night. This experience of seeing the hunger of the
people and how God used our teaching to open the Bible to them was the best reward I could get. May this kind of hunger for the Word increase in all our lives and
may the Bible come alive to us in such a way that we would never want to lay it down.

MONTANA March 2010

ACTS 4:29-30
And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all
boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are preformed through the name of
your holy servant Jesus.

THAILAND The Answer is YES!

Some days I taught for as many as nine hours and the class seemed to love
every second of it. Doing Titus Project not only made me a better and more
confident speaker, it also gave me the opportunity to bring Bible teaching where it
is desperately needed. I was privileged to go to Thailand where I did things like
teaching church elders the Bible Overview and Inductive Method of Bible study, and
teaching at a local Christian coffee shop. At the end of the teachings, our team
often had a question and answer time for our students. In one of these times a girl
raised her hand and asked anxiously if Jesus would continue to forgive someone if
they continue to commit the same sin over and over again. I explained to her from
the Biblical passages that the answer was yes. When she heard this her anxious
look turned to one of relief and freedom and she began to cry. The truth spoken
into her life brought freedom from fear and condemnation. Thats when it really hit
me that the gospel is powerful and life-changing. God used me, a 21 year old
nobody, to radically change lives with His Word.

Overcoming Fear with Faith
I had really been looking forward to participating in Titus Project and was excited about the teaching skills I would
gain. However, as my first time to teach on outreach grew near, I was overcome with fears and insecurities that made
me doubt the gifts and callings that God placed within me. I sought God for courage and asked my team to pray with
me and when the time came for me to step up to the front, I felt encouraged that God was willing and able to use me.
As I went through the different steps of the Bible Overview, presenting Gods redemptive plan for mankind, I began to
see peoples faces reflect understanding and revelation. At the end, one student shared that he had been making a
list of questions that he wanted to have answers to, but discovered by the end of the week that he had all the
answers to his questions. Through all of this, God reignited my passion and desire to teach and I was encouraged
and comforted in the the truth of the gifts God has placed within me.

I was walking out of a market in Thailand where I had been passing out tracks when a security guard ran up to me. He was holding one of my tracts with the
response portion filled out. He asked me, Did you give this to that little girl? Yes I replied. He said, She wants what you have. She wants the book that
teaches about this. The next day I returned to the market bringing a Bible for the girl. I found her and gave it to her. As soon as she had it in her hands, she
opened it and and began to read. It was as if I didnt even exist. Lord, bring her to You.

The Truth Will Set You Free

I had never before seen the Holy Spirit fall with such power and conviction as it did while teaching Gods plan
of redemption in a Nepali village. It was beautiful there. Rice paddies and vegetable fields were terraced into
the sides of green hills. We slept on the third story of a traditional Nepali house, with goats living on the
ground floor. It was our first Bible Overview Seminar and I was apprehensive about how the people would
respond. Those in attendance were of varying ages- men and women, old and new believers. A sixteen-year-
old girl, who had been a believer for just eight months, sat under the same teaching as a church elder who
had been a believer for thirty years. We started with the character of God and creation. As we worked through
the Bible, we could see understanding begin to show in the faces of the people. God was bringing truth into
their lives. On the third morning of the seminar, I taught about the coming of Jesus. As I opened with prayer I
became so overwhelmed by what Jesus had done for us that it was almost as if God was changing me by my
own teaching. As I finished, a woman began to weep. She had been a Christian for six years, but that day she
realized for the first time that God had forgiven her past, present, and future sins. She no longer needed to
live in fear of un-forgiveness. At the end of the seminar, we lit candles to illustrate how believers are the light
to lead people out of the darkness. In the candle-lit room we thanked God for redeeming us. We wept -Nepalis
and Foreigners alike- hands held high, crying out to the Lord with our whole hearts. With voices joined, we
prayed for power, that the world would know the truth and be set free. May we continue to preach with
boldness and be filled with His Spirit.

Gods Word Brings Transformation

While teaching in Nepal there were many times when I could see God work in tangible ways by divine
appointments that he brought across our path. One such instance was when a rough-looking man with long
hair walked in to our teaching in a village church, bringing looks of surprise to the faces of the believers
there. We found out later that this mans name was Kiran, and that he was a former Nepali movie star. He
was also an alcoholic brawler who picked fights in the village and who beat his two wives. His hand and face
were bandaged from a fight the night before when he had attempted to kill one them! During our lunch break
our translator asked me if I would share my testimony with Kiran. I was a bit apprehensive, but I felt the Holy
Spirit tugging at my heart and so I shared how the Lord had spared my life earlier that year by protecting me
in a serious car accident. Later that evening, I spoke on forgiveness from the book of Philemon and gave an
altar call to those who needed to forgive others. People came forward weeping and crying out to God. I then
asked those who needed to receive forgiveness to come forward as well. I felt burdened for Kiran and as I
was praying for God to move on his heart I saw our translator Surendra move over to Kiran and explain the
gospel to him. Kiran gave his life to Christ right there! The following Sunday, out of his own volition, !Kiran
What I learned from stood up in church and announced to everyone that he had become a believer. I could see that Kiran's

being a part of His ministry and He I had a chance to speak again with our translator, Surendra. He told me that Kiran was treating his family well

Love One Another
Four weeks into our outreach, my Titus team made a grueling thirty-hour train ride in order to spend a
UKRAINE
few weeks in Lugansk, an average sized city on the Russian border. In this grey, post-Soviet mining town,
our contacts had arranged for us to teach a number of Inductive Bible Study seminars in the local
churches. We started without delay. Our seminars were attended by Christians from varied theological
backgrounds. In one particular seminar, we noted students from at least four different churches
passionately studying Gods Word together and ecstatically sharing their discoveries. In this moment
denomination differences meant nothing -Calivinism, or Arminianism? Pre or Post Tribulation? Sprinkling
or immersion? Women in ministry? Rapture? Tongues? These things which so often divide were never
mentioned. There was only Gods Word, the joy of discovering its truth, and living it out together. On the
right side of the room, a few rows from the front, sat a group of people that we referred to as group
number three. Sitting around the desk were three women and one man. Each was in their mid-twenties
and each from one of the four churches represented. Throughout the seminar I watched as they worked
together, studied together, congratulated each other over questions well answered, passionately shared
their discoveries, chatted and joked through the breaks, and even exchanged phone numbers. The cherry
on top of the cake was right after we had dismissed the students at our last session. As everyone rose to
leave, I looked over and to my amazement group three remained seated, hands clasped tightly in a
circle around their desks, Bibles in the middle, heads bowed in prayer. They were thanking God for His
Word and their time together. Four Churches, one Chief-Shepherd. This profound and beautiful glimpse
of the unifying power of Gods Word is one I will not quickly forget.

At a Gypsy Village we were told of how the

pastors had previously been praying for Bible
teachers to come. A few weeks later our team
called to ask if there was a need for Bible
teaching. During our time in the village the
pastors kept saying: You are an answer to our
prayers.
