ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to express my deep sense of gratitude to Mr. Hitesh K. Solanki for their valuable
guidance and co-operation throughout my seminar work.

I take immense pleasure to thank the Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering who
allowed me to carry out this seminar work. He had been a constant source of inspiration
throughout the semester.

I would also like to thank all the faculties of Mechanical Engineering Department for their
encouragement and co-operation throughout the Seminar work.

At last, I would like to explicitly acknowledge the wonderful support and enthusiastic co-
operation which I had received from our college.

ABSTRACT

iii
Today’s world is very fast growing. The main backlash is the accuracy of naturally fuel available
to the mankind. Many new inventions and technologies are been made to solve this problem.
One of the main fuel consumption elements is the automobile vehicles. Also in today’s world,
powerful acceleration is required in automobiles. So to overcome more fuel consumption and get
more acceleration, one of the latest technologies in automobile industry is “HYBRID
SYNERGY DRIVE (HSD)”.

The HSD power units integrate electronic motor and a petrol engine. It combines the
characteristics of electric drive and continuously variable transmission (CVT). The HSD is a
system with no direct mechanical connection between engine and engine controls, both gas pedal
and gearshift lever in HSD merely send electrical signals to a control computer. A computer
program running appropriate actuators controls the system and directs the power flow from the
different engine and motor sources. Thus HSD devices work by shunting electrical power
between the two motor generators which act as a transducer that converts electricity into motion
and vice versa.

This technology vehicle provides us more energy efficient drive. Hybrid Synergy Drive also
reduces CO2 emission and it drives the vehicle twice as far than normal engine vehicles. The
vehicle with Hybrid Synergy Drive has a very smooth and powerful acceleration. Moreover HSD
vehicle can also run only on electric motor. This report will give you a clear idea of how this
concept of Hybrid Synergy Drive works and how it can be implemented in the automobile
industries so as to serve the mankind.
