History………
• Robert Wood Johnson joined with two of his brothers
,James Wood & Edward Mead Johnson founded Johnson
& Johnson in 1886 in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

• Johnson & Johnson made its first acquisition with the


purchase of the J. Ellwood Lee Company, a medical
products company located in Conshohocken,
Pennsylvania in 1905.

• International expansion started in 1919 with Johnson &


Johnson, Canada.

• Company was family-owned until listed on NYSE in 1944.


History………
• In 1920, Johnson & Johnson cotton mill employee
Earl Dickson came up with the idea of ready-to use
bandages. This was the birth of BAND-AID Brand
Adhesive Bandages.

• The company reached a significant milestone in 1970


with the company recording more than $1 billion sales
for the year

• In 1997, Johnson & Johnson stock was added to the


Dow Jones Industrial Average.

• The company sales exceeded $30 billion for the first time
in 2001 for a year

The Products are divided in three segments :

• Consumer Segment – Range of products used in the Baby


& child care, skin care, oral & wound care, women’s health
care & over the counter pharmaceutical products. The
associated brands are BAND-AID, CAREFREE, CLEAN &
CLEAR, NEUTROGENA.

• Pharmaceutical Segment – Products for use in various


theropeutic area including anti-fungal, anti-infective, cardio
vascular, contraceptive, dermatology, pain management
under the brands RISPERDAL, PROCRIT, NATRECOR,
REMICADE.

• Medical Device & Diagnostics Segment – Product range


includes circulatory disease management products,
orthopedic joint reconstruction & spinal care products,
professional diagnostic products & disposable contact
lenses.
