UNIVERSITY STUDENTS BRING SOLAR DECATHLON TO DEANWOOD

Will Design Solar-Powered Home for Residents in Partnership with Habitat


for Humanity and Department of Housing and Community Development

WHAT: A "site-warming" event hosted by students from Parsons The New


School for Design, Milano The New School for Management and Urban
Policy, and Stevens Institute of Technology – one of the selected teams
for the 2011 Solar Decathlon – to introduce the community to the
project, which will forge new ground in the competition by developing
a solar-powered, two-family home for local residents of Deanwood,
working in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C.
and the city's Department of Housing and Community Development.

The Solar Decathlon is a biennial, international competition hosted by the U.S.


Department of Energy that challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and
operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and
attractive. These houses will be exhibited on the National Mall in October 2011. For
