United States Flag - Some Moments in History


June 14, 1777 – The Continental Congress adopts a 13 Star, 13 stripe
national flag.
January 13, 1794 - Congress adds 2 stars and 2 stripes to the flag after
Vermont and Kentucky join the Union
September 13 – 14, 1814 – Francis Scott Key writes the Star
Spangled Banner” as he sees the flag flying over Fort McHenry in
Baltimore Harbor after British bombardment.
1818 – Congress returns the 13 original stripes to the flag and decides
to add a new star for each new state accepted into the Union.
1892 – The “Pledge of Allegiance” appears in the Youth’s
Companion magazine.
1942 – Congress establishes a code of how the American flag should
be handled and displayed.
February 23. 1945 – The American Flag is raised over Iwo Jima after
the United States captures the Island during WWII.
1949 – Congress established June 14 as flag day.
July 4. 1960 – The 50th star is added a year after Hawaii becomes the
50th State.

HONOR GUARD REQUESTS
Requests for the Honor Guard and Color Corps must be made in
writing and sent to the Faithful Navigator at least one (1) month
prior to the date requested. Requests for Masses must include both
the Grand Knight’s signature and the signature of the Pastor of the
Parish where the Mass will take place.

On Sunday, March 18th, The Relics of the Passion of Christ were on Display at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in
Patchogue. The Honor Guard for the Commander John J. Shea Assembly was called upon to assist in Guarding and
Displaying these Relics. Pictured here are from (l) to (r) are: Robert Malone, Ed Byrne, Curtis Bonavoglia, Fr. Henry
