Extruder – what it does?
• Receives feed material (powder) & additives via. hopper into
the mixer barrel.
• Mixes the polymers & additives in the barrel by twin screws.
• Pumps the molten polymer by melt gear pump.
• Extrudes the polymer through the die nozzle as hot melt
strands and cut the extruded strands into pellets in a water
chamber filled with circulating cooling water.
• These pellets are then conveyed to dewatering & drying
equipment & from there pellets go to classifier to separate
oversize,undersize & regular size pellets.
Extruders in HPL
 37.5 T/Hr. in LLDPE
 33.5 T/Hr. in PP
 16.0 T/Hr. X 2 in HDPE

Continuous Mixer Pump

Extruders – Brief Description
• Starting unit consists of starting motor, gear reducer & cam clutch. –
used to start the machine.
• Mixer gear reducer – driven by mixer motor through friction
coupling
• Twin screws connected with mixer gear reducer & rotating in same
direction
• Mixer barrel cylinders comprise of feed, mixing & discharge zones.
• Diverter valve attached to the end of the barrel – used for purging
the barrel.
• Gear pump connected to the downstream of diverter valve & used to
force the polymer to screen changer.
• Screen changer-located between melt gear pump & die head & used
to filter molten polymer.
• Die head & cutter-Molten polymer is extruded through die holes &
cut into pellets by cutter unit
Sundyne Pumps
Sundyne Pumps – Brief description of the machine

• Basically a vertical centrifugal pump.

• Used for high head .
• Compact design
• Output speed can go up to 14000 rpm.
• Input shaft intermeshes with output shaft for few
models.
• For other models input shaft intermeshes with idler
shaft which in turn rotates output shaft.
Sundyne Pumps – Models used in HPL

• LMV - 322
• LMV - 311
• LMV – 312
Dryer
Dryer – why it is used?
• Used to dry powder by removing volatile
materials (steam / hexane)
Type of dryers in HPL
• Two types used
• In PP & LLDPE ,it is vertical & static.
• In HDPE ,it is inclined & rotating.
Dryers in PP & LLDPE
• These are vertical & static equipment.
• Used for drying powder from steam.
• Hot nitrogen enters from bottom & exists
from top.
• Nitrogen circulates in a close loop circuit.
• Powder comes from top & after drying goes
from bottom.
Dryer in HDPE
• It is inclined equipment & rotates at max 3
rpm.
• Inside there are steam tubes which carries
steam
• Wet powder comes in touch with steam
tubes in counter flow design.
• Hexane comes out from the wet powder
while comes in touch with steam tubes.
Centrifuge
Centrifuge
• Used to separate hexane from powder.
• It comprises with a bowl, a screw & planetary
gear.
• Bowl is rotated by a motor & it rotates the
planetary gear.
• Screw is attached with the planetary gear .
• Due to the differential speed between the screw
& the bowl powder gets separated from hexane.
