HBSC3303: TEACHING SCIENCE FOR LOWER SECONDARY 1


SEPTEMBER 2010 SEMESTER

1. This assignment has a ONE (1) question only. You may write in English or in
Malay.

2. Your assignment should be typed on A4 paper using 12 pt Times New Roman and 1.5
line spacing.

3. This assignment carries a 25% weightage towards the final


grade.

4. This assignment should be prepared individually.

5. Your assignment must be submitted to the tutor.

6. Your assignment must be submitted before or by the 4th tutorial. Submissions after
deadline are not acceptable.

7. Your assignment should be limited to 10 – 12 pages only.

8. This assignment will be evaluated on the basis of the accuracy of the answers given
and the credibility of the supporting arguments, data and references.

9. Plagiarism in any form is prohibited. Plagiarised materials would not be accepted and
no marks would be awarded for the work.
ASSIGNMENT QUESTION (PEDALAMAN)

As a lower secondary science teacher you have to not only master the subject matter but
also ensure that the learning experiences of your students are enhanced through effective
planning and preparation of activities and resources. You also have to use various
methods of teaching and learning science to make sure the learning outcomes are
achieved.
Select one topic from either the Living World or Material World in the Lower Secondary
Science Curriculum.
(i) Collect information from at least two different resources on the topic chosen.
Read the information gathered and construct a concept map to link all the
concepts in the topic.
(10 marks)

(ii) Plan an activity that can meet one or more of the learning outcomes of the topic
that you have chosen. You can choose to use a discovery, inquiry or constructivist
approach. Include the form taught, time required, instructions for the activity, an
explanation of the science concepts / principles involved, relevant science process
skills used, and the source of references.

SOALAN TUGASAN (PEDALAMAN)

Sebagai guru sains menengah rendah anda bukan hanya perlu menguasai isi kandungan
mata pelajaran tetapi juga memastikan pengalaman pembelajaran pelajar ditingkatkan
melalui perancangan aktiviti dan sumber yang efektif. Anda juga perlu menggunakan
pelbagai kaedah pengajaran pembelajaran sains untuk memastikan hasil pembelajaran
dicapai.
Pilih satu topik dari Alam Hidupan atau Alam Bahan dalam Kurikulum Sains Menengah
Rendah

(i) Kumpulkan maklumat daripada sekurang-kurangnya dua sumber berlainan


berkaitan dengan topik yang dipilih. Baca maklumat yang dikumpulkan dan bina
sebuah peta konsep yang mengaitkan semua konsep dalam topik tersebut.

(ii) Rancang satu aktiviti untuk mencapai satu atau lebih hasil pembelajaran dalam
topik yang dipilih. Anda boleh mengguna pendekatan penemuan, inkuiri atau
konstruktif. Masukkan tingkatan yang diajar, masa yang diperlukan, arahan untuk
aktiviti, huraian konsep/ prinsip yang terlibat, kemahiran proses sains yang
berkaitan dan sumber rujukan.
