A. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME:


At the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Clarify basic concepts of philosophy, philosophy of education and historical


development of the Malaysian Education System. (C2, LO1)
2. Explain the Islamic, Western and Eastern philosophers’ viewpoints on knowledge ,
education and branches of philosophy based on literature review. (C2,A2, LO1, LO6,
LL1)
3. Evaluate elements in the National Philosophy of Education (FPK) and Philosophy
of Teacher Education (FPG) in the teaching profession. (C5, LO3, CTPS2)
4. Analyse curriculum models and implementation of curriculum in schools through
presentation activities. (C4, A4, LO3, LO4, CTPS3,CS4)
5. Analyse issues concerning education in Malaysia by refering to relevant
references.(C4, LO3, LO6,CTPS3, LL1)

This course work is to assess the learning outcomes 1,2,4 and 5.


B. COURSE WORK OBJECTIVES:
Students will be able to:
1. Answer and understand quiz questions on the basic concepts of philosophy,
educational philosophy and the history of the development of the education system in
Malaysia and the views of philosophers (Islam, West & East) on knowledge and
education and branches of philosophy (HPK1, HPK2).
2. Produce and present the results of analysis on one of the curriculum models and
curriculum implementation in schools (HPK4).
3. Produce an academic writing that details the practice of teacher professionalism and
self-improvement to address issues in education in Malaysia so that the diversity of
student potential is balanced and holistic based on policy makers' initiatives and
lifelong learning through relevant reference sources (HPK5).

C. TASK IMPLEMENTATION:
1. Academic Writing (30%)
Referring to the Journal entitled “Early Childhood Literature Education: Issues and
Problems”, children's literature is a developmental agent that leads to the
development of a person's self, whether emotional, thought or linguistic. This is in
line with the National Education Philosophy, 1996 that states:

"Education in Malaysia is a continuous effort towards developing the potential of


individuals in a comprehensive and integrated manner to produce a balanced and
harmonious human being in terms of intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical
(JERIS) based on faith and obedience to God ...".

(Source: Falsafah Pendidikan Kebangsaan, 1996)


Based on the above statement, analyse the language issue by relating the
elements (JERIS) contained in the National Philosophy of Education

Your academic writing should include the following aspects:

1. This is an individual task.


2. Essay writing should contain a total of 1000 words only excluding tables, charts
and supporting graphic material (if any).
3. This assignment will focus on the following, namely:
a. Skills in analyzing and evaluating an issue discussed.
b. Problem solving skills.
c. Information retrieval skills for lifelong learning.
4. Assignment Assessment Criteria will be reviewed based on the scoring rubric
provided. You can refer to the Assessment Rubric provided as a guide.
5. A good assignment should meet the following criteria:
 Has comprehensive, relevant and detailed content.
 Present evidence and materials that can support arguments and discussions
(in the appendix).
 The entire content and processing of your essay should show originality with
the support of scientific materials.
 Throwing arguments or using your own ideas necessarily focuses on
elements of creative and critical skills.
 The format and illustration of the writing should be clear.
 Your writing should demonstrate fluency in language and maturity of
argument.
 Students are advised to have a discussion with the lecturer to ensure that the
writing content is in line with the objectives of the course work.
 This assignment will be reviewed based on the assessment criteria that have
been set (please refer to the Scoring Rubric provided).
 Use only Arial font size 11 and skip 1.5 on each line.
 The writing format and reference sources should follow the American
Psychological Association 7th Edition (APA 7th Ed.).
 Any production of non-original assignments is not allowed
(plagiarism/wrongdoing/copying from any source is strictly PROHIBITED).
Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with existing rules.

Instructions for academic writing:

1. Writing and proof of the assignment must be sent in pdf format and uploaded to
the respective Google Classroom.
2. A guide to the period of performing each coursework assignment throughout the
semester is provided.
3. The practice of plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
4. All assignments carry a mark of 50% of the total assessment for this course.
5. Completed assignments must be sent to the respective lecturers before or on the
due date. Delays in submitting assignments will affect your marks. Submit an
assignment with the following information:
• Student’s name
• Index number
• IC number
• Group/Unit
• Code and Course’s name
• Lecturer’s name

2. Individual Presentation (10%)

“Based on the development of the education curriculum in Malaysia, the curriculum


is part of the components that drive the educational process. An understanding of
the curriculum will give educators an advantage to implement educational
programmes more effectively. The formation of each curriculum takes into account
the National Education Philosophy which emphasizes the factors of individual
desire as well as based on the ideology that provides comprehensive education so
that students can develop in a balanced way ”
(Noriati; Lee; Zukufli & Zakiah, 2016)
Individually, based on your respective subjects of specialization, select one of the
curriculum models and analyse in terms of curriculum content and PdPR
implementation by referring to relevant and suitable sources.

Your presentation should include the following aspects:


i. Describe one of the curriculum models and curriculum implementation in
schools and present an analysis of curriculum models in term of curriculum
content and implementation of PdPR through relevant reference sources.
ii. Build 8 - 10 graphic sketches (excluding attachment)
Presentation Instruction:
i. This is an individual presentation.
ii. The allocated time of presentation is 30 minutes.
iii. The presentation covers one main topic which is curriculum model and
curriculum implementation in schools.
iv. Presentation of Assignment 2 will be performed online using the Google
Classroom application asynchronously from August 3rd, 2021 to August
19th, 2021.
v. Each student is required to make a recording of the presentation and upload
the assignments at the latest by August 19th, 2021.

3. Individual Quiz (10%)
i. This quiz must be answered individually.
ii. The allocated time is 30 minutes.
iii. The quiz consists of 20 multiple choice objective questions according to the
total student learning time (SLT) covering topics 1, 2 and 3 for the EDUP3013
course.
iv. The quiz is implemented simultaneously to all students online using the
Google Classroom app and will be shared on all students via the Whatsapp
app link on July 29th, 2021.
