City of Douglasville October Fest Weekend
The City of Douglasville will be hosting several community events
in the historic downtown on October 23. The festivities will begin at
8:00am with the first annual West Georgia Quad bike ride. It will
feature three different route options including a 35-mile, 50-mile,
and 100-mile loop beginning in Historic Downtown Douglasville. The
participants will ride through four Georgia counties including Carroll,
Douglas, Haralson, and Paulding. Registration is $35 and a portion of
the registration fee will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Douglas
County. At 10:00am the first annual Tike Ride will begin. This bike ride
is open to kids ages six years and below. Training wheels are allowed.

Following the start of the West Georgia Quad will be the Fall Main
Street Community Market. The Douglasville Downtown Development
Authority’s annual Fall Main Street Community Market will be open
from 10:00am to 3:00pm on O’Neal Plaza. The market will feature
cycling, sports, fitness, and health vendors.
Performing on the Plaza Stage between 11:00am to 1:00pm that
day will be the “Douglasville…So You Think You Can Dance?” com-
petition and the 14th annual Cultural Arts Council’s Chili Cook off will
begin at 6:00pm. It will feature hot beans, cool booths, a kids costume
contest, hay ride, and pumpkin carving. For more information contact

The final event for the evening will be the City of Douglasville
Moonlight Run sponsored by the Douglas County Rogue Runners. This
event will begin in downtown Douglasville at 8:00pm with the Tot Trot

Carrollton Artist Guild presents MeccaFest
The Carrollton Artist Guild proudly presents MeccaFest, a Fine
Arts and Crafts Show at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center in historic

Mirror Lake Elementary will hold its annual Fall Festival on Friday,
October 29 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. There will be local crafts, food,

Christian Community Orchestra prepares for annual

Christmas Concert

The Christian Community Orchestra will be completing

their 18th year in serving the community with the Christmas
Concert on December 7, 2010 at 7:30pm at Central Bap-
tist Church in Douglasville (located at 5811 Central Church
Road). The concert is free and no offering is taken. Children
are welcome and encouraged to attend. It is a unique oppor-
tunity for them to hear and see a real orchestra playing music
they recognize.
After the concert, concert attendees may become acquaint-
ed with the orchestra members and soloists during the fel-
lowship and reception. This concert will have a special part
in the remembrance of Pearl Harbor Day and will recognize
those who served in the armed forces during World War II.
The Christmas music played that evening will be very familiar
and the audience will have an opportunity to sing along.
If you play an instrument and want to become a part of the
Orchestra, you can by attending the rehearsals. Beginning on
September 13, the CCO rehearses each Monday evening at
7:00pm for this concert. This rehearsal is for more seasoned
players. They also offer a 6:00pm rehearsal for those who
may need extra help with the music. The rehearsals are held
at Central Baptist Church.

I hope you don’t mind if I take a few moments to poke fun at you, the
reader, the aspiring photographer! Keep in mind it was over 30 years
ago when I picked up my camera and started chasing down my chil-
dren. Let’s poke some fun at ourselves and remember the real reason
why we fell in love with our cameras - OUR KIDDOS! They change so
darn fast and we want to remember each special moment in their lives. We
love our little rascals so much that we are willing to chase them down over
and over again trying hard to take that perfect image with their (some-
times) not so perfect attitudes. We spend lots of money on purchasing the
latest camera gear with the hopes of capturing that million dollar image
but in all honesty our greatest reward will be catching their million dollar
smile. Here are a few clues that will help us to know when your photogra-
phy career is over:
1. Every time you pull out your camera your children start crying and
running in the opposite direction.
2. Your children now require special sunglasses from all the exposure
to flashing light.
3. When your home is burglarized, all your photo gear is taken along
with the picture frames and mattes, but your photos are mysteriously left
behind.
4. Your contest entry in the “feline” category, captured during a thrilling
photo safari on the plains of the Serengeti, loses out to a picture of a cat
napping on a sofa.
5. After scanning your portfolio, the organizers of the workshop you
want to attend inform you they are fully booked — even though the venue
is at the convention center.
6. Your unretouched images are frequently featured at PhotoshopDi-
sasters.com.

Children’s Brain Injury Association, Inc.

Many of your readers will recall the articles about my very spe-
cial daughter, Hannah
Ashlyn Duggan, who I
often call, the Princess
of the Universe. Han-
nah suffered from a
brain injury in June of
2006, due to a seizure
that lasted almost two
hours. Hannah continues to work so hard to regain all her skills. She
is still not functioning as she was before. Over the last four years I
have personally learned so much about brain injuries and special
needs. When Hannah first got sick in the summer of 2006, I had
searched everywhere for a group that served children with brain in-
juries. Unfortunately, I was searching for a group that did not exist.
It seemed like everywhere I was turning, I began to learn something
new. However all this information I knew was spread out all over the
place. There is close to no financial support for this cause, only the
private fundraisers being done would help very little.
I have met so many parents on this crazy journey, and I come to re-
alize that their experiences are very similar to mine. There is a greater
need than people can see for an organization that can help and as-
sist children and families who have or are experiencing a brain injury.
Therefore, we formed “Children’s Brain Injury Association, Inc.”
We have many types of children with various needs/wants that will
improve their quality of life on our website. If your church, Sunday
school class, business or even a single individual would love to spon-
sor one of these precious children, please go to our website and

Ritzy Rummage Sale to Fund Community Service
On Saturday, October 23rd the Junior League of Douglas Coun-
ty will host a Ritzy Rummage Sale at the National Guard Armory of
Douglasville located at 6784 Church Street. On Friday, October
22nd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm there will be an Early Bird Sale with an
admission fee of $5.00. Saturday’s sale is free admission and will run
from 8:00am to noon. All proceeds received from this event will be
used to support the community projects of the Junior League. These
projects include giving books to third graders, reading to children at
the HeadStart program, throwing parties for the Douglas County Se-
nior Center, arts and crafts activities with the women and children
living at the SHARE House shelter, supplying food to the Gift of Love,
combating childhood obesity working with the Boys and Girls Club,
Special Olympics involvement, working with the Hope Project and
raising awareness for Child Abuse. If you have an interest in help-
