New year, new look for the Lisle Chamber website. We urge you to view the new website at www.lislechamber.com. It has a refreshing new look and features that are long overdue. You will be able to register for programs, luncheons, and workshops on line and pay for the programs as well. We will also keep you more up-to-date on our program offerings and the latest news from the Chamber. Other enhancements will be explained in the near future but I know will enjoy the changes. Thanks to Shaun Pollitt for his work on this important communication piece. In December we welcomed several new members including Edward Hospital which we are very pleased to have back. In addition we enjoyed our annual meeting with featured speaker Michael Kasper of DuPage Medical Group. We welcomed Susan Ross of the Morton Arboretum as a new member of the board of directors and said goodbye and thank you to Jenn Schinke of Bank Financial. We also welcomed back for a second term to Sonny Smith of College of DuPage, Joe Straka of PACT, and Elizabeth Boone of Benedictine University. Our board of directors is very active and supportive of your chamber. We hope you have a chance to thank them for their service. Looking ahead to January you will find several opportunities to meet other members and even members of other chambers. There will be two luncheons this month, one regarding the State of the County featuring Board Chair, Dan Cronin and the other the State of the Village of Lisle with Mayor Joe Broda. Both luncheons are a great way to start off the year and will be very informative. We also have a ribbon-cutting at Minelab, a new Lisle business. this Australian based company manufactures metal detectors which are used in various applications. So let's help welcome them to the Lisle Chamber. Our Business After Hours will be held at H&R Block on Maple Ave. They are getting ready for next tax season and there are always changes so you may learn about new laws which will affect your business. Hopefully we haven't fallen off the fiscal cliff but we should have some strategies in hand. As I write this the political leaders in Washington are still meeting. I hope you had a very enjoyable holiday season and are ready for some great activities with the Lisle Chamber. We look forward to our popular dinner dance in February and the Spring Sprint 5K/10K in March. Enjoy the winter season and all it has to offer. Hopefully there will be some snow for those who enjoy the outdoor activities that it brings. Thanks for all you do.

Chair MessagePaula Gleason

As the 2012 holiday season ends and we enter another new year in 2013, I want to wish every Chamber member a happy, healthy, historic, hopeful and humorous New Year with abounding prosperity.. It is a privilege and an honor to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce. Although I must say, coming in after the superb leadership of Chris Ashe is going to be a tough act to follow. While we say goodbye to our longtime Chamber Board member, Jennifer Schinke, we also welcome returning and new Board members Liz Boone, Susan Ross, Sonny Smith and Joe Straka. Their track records will provide a new perspective for the Board of Directors and I am so looking forward to working with them as we serve our Chamber and our membership together. For those who I have not yet met, my name is Paula Gleason and in addition to beginning to serve as Chairman for 2013, I currently serve as chairperson of the Ambassador Committee and the annual Dinner Dance Committee, and serve as a volunteer on various other Chamber committees. So based on a strong commitment to the Chamber, it is only natural that I have chosen our 2013 Chamber theme as Building a Foundation of Commitment. The single most important factor in any success is COMMITMENT. Commitment ignites action. To commit is to pledge yourself to a certain purpose. It also means practicing your beliefs consistently. I call it persistence with a purpose. The mission of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce is to contribute to the betterment of our community by nurturing business relationships and opportunities for our members. Given the large number of demands placed on all of us, it is imperative to concentrate on achieving these most important goals and objectives. The Chamber is committed to its members because these are the people who are the backbone of our community. Their employees live and work here. Their kids attend our schools and they are members of our churches and community groups. When these businesses commit to becoming Chamber members, communication is the key with this commitment. When we support their needs and expectations, they in turn will support the Chamber with their business. Effectively demonstrating commitment to members and to the Chambers basic principles may not be easy; the truth is demonstrating commitment is hard work. The only way to achieve our reputation for commitment is through determination and persistence, by encouraging local business partnerships and corporate participation in Chamber events and community programs. We need to more effectively encourage member commitment to networking opportunities at Business After Hours, Ribbon Cuttings, Membership luncheons, Committee Memberships, Golf Outings, 5K/10K and the annual Dinner Dance. I dont want to see any more local businesses close their doors. We must continue to build that foundation of commitment, earn that reputation for integrity and most importantly garner the commitment of our members in return. Commitment is a two-way street. You only get it if you are willing to give it. So make a commitment to get to know our Board, our Ambassadors and our staff. More specifically, make a commitment to listen to Mayor Broda present his State of the Village at our Chamber luncheon on January 17 at the Lisle Hilton and establish effective networking with other members. For sure, make a commitment to attend the annual Dinner Dance and Silent Auction on February 8 at the Lisle Hilton. I invite you to begin Building a Foundation of Commitment!
