We had a very enjoyable August with the Lisle Chamber especially at our member appreciation picnic on August 15th. Wally Nagel of Class Printing brought a special treat of smoked salmon and helped man the grill which was a huge assist for us. Thanks also to Julie LaFond of St. Joan of Arc who brought potato salad and fruit, Judy Torres of Shaklee brought a healthy salad, John Morrell Foods donated smoked sausage, Julie Barnett of Service Master provided burgers and hotdogs, WFH provided condiments, West Suburban Pantry gave us paper products, Jewel donated cookies, Culvers provided custard as a treat, Barbara Schmith donated chips, and the Lisle Park District brought tables, chairs, and allowed us to use their grill. A great time was had by all with over 130 people in attendance. We also gave away some great sweatshirts and bags from the Chamber. Special thanks to Mary Torgerson and GC Realty for hosting the August Business Hours. We met some new potential chamber members saw a lot of new members and enjoyed a great spread of food and drinks. Best wishes to Mary and Doug as they will tie the knot at the end of this year. The summer season may be over but there are plenty of opportunities for networking within the Lisle Chamber. The month of September promises to offer many events where you will learn new techniques or share information. Women in Business will have their first luncheon of the fall featuring Kim Leupold, of Holistic Healthcare. She will be the speaker at this Sept. 10th event. Kim has some great insights so you will not want to miss this presentation. Remember men are welcome to attend as well. On Wednesday morning Sept. 11th we are holding a breakfast at Wheatstack featuring a presentation of Lean Six Sigma. The topic will emphasize reducing waste in your business or organization. Anne Knurek of Molex, Inc. will be the presenter. Our general membership luncheon on September 19th will be held at the Hilton at 11:30am. Our speaker will be from FEMA. The presentation will give a review of how they assisted with flood relief and the effort going forward. The April flood has had far reaching effects on the Lisle Area community. U.S. Bank is hosting the Business After Hours this month. It will be great to be back with Darlene Kirk and the staff at the corner of Ogden and Main St. Partners for Parks will hold the Arts in the Park event on Sept. 7th. Our wheelbarrow will be up for auction as part of that program at 4pm. The following weekend, the Lisle Heritage Society will host Depot Days at the Museums of Lisle Station Park. As an extra feature there will be a band on Saturday night. There will be an extra Cruise Night on Saturday Sept. 21 st so watch for that. Kitty Murphy and Tina Baker from the Nook have done a great job coordinating this fun event. Finally the Lisle Chamber will be presenting Lisle Ale Fest on Saturday Sept. 28th from 4-8pm. We still need volunteers to assist with the program and information about tickets and the over 40 craft beer vendors is available at www.lislealefest.com. This is the first year of this exciting beer tasting event. We expect a large crowd and urge you to bring yourself and friends to enjoy the variety of craft beers available. Thanks for all of your support and happy fall!

Of all the forms of Social that make our world a little happier, none is better than the original kind getting together with friends and acquaintances to enjoy each others company. Your Chamber commits to scheduling many monthly activities so that you may do this often and learn about business opportunities in and around the Lisle area. Our August calendar began with a Lisle Executive Networking Group lunch that was enjoyed at Yerbabuena on August 6. Then there was the Business Ledger luncheon on August 8 at the Double Tree featuring a panel of professionals who presented an array of information on, Managing a Family Business. The annual membership appreciation picnic hosted by the Chamber was extremely well-attended on August 15 in the Lisle Chamber parking lot. Many thanks are offered to all of the businesses and volunteers who donated the appetizing food, drinks, paper products, tables, chairs and time to make this such a huge success. Very sincere thanks to Tom Althoff and Wally Nagel for grilling and to Jill Eidukas and Julie LaFond for organizing the event. More networking occurred at the Lisle Executive Networking Group lunch on August 20 at Jersey Mikes. And to gild the lily, a quite successful Business After Hours on August 28 at one of our newer members, GC Realty Development. If you were unable to attend, you missed another extravaganza of food and wonderful networking. The third Cruise night of the season opened on August 31 to a nice reception, and the announcement of a final Cruise Night for this season that will occur on September 21. We hope that you will commit to being at the final Cruise Night of the 2013 season to express your appreciation of these venues while enjoying the ambiance of the evening. Congratulations to our own Tom Althoff, who was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District. New businesses welcomed into the Chamber this month are Neary Martin, Inc., Avant at the Arboretum, Design & Promote and Crosstown Pub and Grill; we look forward to their business climate perspectives and commitment to Chamber networking involvement. The Village of Lisle created a beautiful video of the Lisle French Market that illustrates the variety of bakery items, abundance of fresh fruit, produce and vegetables and an array of handmade artisan products. Make a commitment to visit the market, enjoy the weekly musical entertainment and shop local! Your Board of Directors is continuing to Build a Foundation of Commitment to its membership. As I said before, possibly the best description of commitment is persistence with a purpose. Our purpose this month is to host a successful fundraising inaugural event, Alefest: Beer, Barbecue and Blues. We persistently ask for your continued commitment to volunteer and/or purchase tickets to support this exciting venue on Saturday, September 28, 4:00 8:00PM, at Main and Burlington on the old Village Hall site.
