The Project is establishing educational and free medical clinic services for underserved communities in the San Francisco

Bay Area and Northern California. The clinics will help people to learn lifestyle changes beneficial to their own health. It was interesting to learn about a program of medicine about which most of us were unfamiliar.

In the absence of President Nora, Past President Mary Elena Dochterman presided and called upon her willing roommate, Cliff, to provide the thought for the day. There were a series of significant announcements, several of which are mentioned in detail in other segments of this newsletter. We were pleased to have Alex Glazer, Moraga Rotarys representative to the District Camp Venture, held this past summer, give a report on her experiences. She noted how the 45 students from Northern California melded and were assigned into 10 groups to develop a creative product, the business plan, a financial model and a sales and marketing program. She described her groups product as a portable organic drink. Alex expressed her appreciation to Moraga Rotary for the opportunity to learn some of the thrill of operating a business.

KUDOS OF THE WEEK

This week we must tip the ol hat to Kevin Reneau, chair of the LMYA food booth last Sunday at the Moraga Commons. Hot dogs were barbied by Lou Roessler and Rich Render; gently wrapped by Debbie Roessler and Mary Elena Docherman; the popcorn was popped by Cliff Dochterman; a whole variety of snacks and cold drinks were dispensed by Al Simonsen, Frank May, Dick Vance, Al Sperske and granddaughter Elizabeth. At the hot dog sales department you found Gary Irwin, Tony Schoemehl, & Kevin Reneau. The queen of the cash box and chief cashier was Louise Schopke. Thanks to all! It is amazing how important you can be to Moraga Rotary just by showing up! Louise reported that the met income of the fundraiser could be up to $1,800 for the Clubs service fund!

PROGRAM FOR TODAY

The program today was presented by Dr. Erlene Chiang, a fourth generation Chinese Acupuncturist. She told of her experiences working with cancer patients with treatments in addition to the traditional chemo and radiation procedures. In the Far East communities for many years Chinese medicines have been integrated with traditional medicine. This is now happening at a greater degree in San Francisco Bay Area hospitals. The Fountain Project (which receives its name from the outpouring of water, which is essential for building new life) promotes the healing of body, mind and spirit by integrating Eastern and Western medical practices, and encourages self healing through lifestyle changes.

MORE KUDOS
A second round of Kudos must go to Frank May and Debbie Roessler for representing the Club last Saturday at the District Membership and Foundation Seminar in Vacaville. We will hear from them at a future meeting regarding some of the new ideas they gleamed from the Seminar.

OUR EDITORIAL COMMENT

Remember, someone took the special effort to invite you to visit Rotary and then to become a Rotarian. Think about it. Have you shared the same benefits and pleasures of Rotary with another person? A flower, held too tightly in ones hand, soon withers and dies.
