The club Holiday Party will be on
Tuesday, December 20th from 6:00 to
9:00 pm at the Holy Trinity (Serbian)
Church Hall. Past President, Brian
South and his wife, Suzy will be there,
and Brian will tell us about his recent trip
to Scotland to give the Immortal Toast at
the Tranent Rotary Club’s annual Burns
Supper.
Our club will forgo a weekly meeting on
December 27th as is our tradition at year
end.

University, “The Ins & Outs of
the College Admissions
Process”
President, Igor Kipnis introduced
today’s speaker, Annie Wells, Assistant
Director of Admissions at Vanderbilt
University.
Annie provided a rapid-fire presentation
for the 146 parents in attendance who
have children preparing for college.
Step 1 College Fit
In picking a college the size of the
student population, geographical
location, housing availability and the
educational programs offered need to be
considered,
Step 2 Application Platforms
Common Application -used by over 400
schools. Saves time.
Coalition Application – used by about 150
schools. Also saves time.
Quest Bridge – for low-income students,
used by 40 colleges
Institution Specific – used by an
individual college.

Admission Practices
Holistic - look at academic achievement,
personal essay, extracurricular
activities and letters of recommendation.
Additional Factors at Some Schools-
Personal interview, demonstrative
interest in a specfic program, legacy
contacts at school (parents, friends etc.)
Testing Policies
Required - some tests mandatory .
Optional - tests can be chosen or not
