VISITORS & GUESTS

TODAYS PROGRAM
Moraga Rotary held a Club Assembly today, which also included a short report on Rotary Internationals Council on Legislation. President Frank May reviewed many of the details of the upcoming annual 3 day OMPA fund raiser; the Rotary Food Booths at the Orinda Moraga Pool Association swim meet on August 2 to 4. It is recognized that the project is labor intensive and we will need the hands of all Club members. We will need to invite others to join with us, especially those with the ability to lift things. A preliminary sign-up sheet was sent around. An all-Club meeting will be held in July to round out details and job assignments. Other discussions centered on membership for individuals who have shown a special interest in our Club and our need to follow up and invite them to become Rotarians. Cliff Dochterman described Rotarys triennial Council on Legislation, which he attended in Chicago for a week in April. The Council, composed of about 600 Rotarians from every part of the world, considered 200 proposals related to the constitution, by-laws and rules of Rotary International. He illustrated how Rotary policies and procedures are changed and altered. He pointed out that the Council is particularly interesting because it brings out many of the differences in customs, nationalities, traditions, political systems and concerns of Rotarians found in a world-wide association.

2014-15 CLUB PRESIDENT SELECTED

President Frank reported that the Nomination Committee (Past Presidents) proposed that the Club President for 2014-15 should be Debbie Roessler. The report was approved with acclaim! We all appreciate Debbies willingness to serve as President for another term.

KUDOS OF THE WEEK

This week we shower our appreciation on Jody Parker and Gary Irwin for a great job planning the Clubs Golf Tournament and Social at the Moraga Country Club. Gary handled the golfing arrangements and Jody hosted a beautiful reception at her home following the tournament. Mark it down as one super event! Some great golf and

absolutely delicious food and beverages at Jodys attractive home, overlooking the golf course. All who played in the tournament and others who joined in the fellowship say a big hearty, MANY THANKS.

EDITORIAL COMMENTS
It was particularly rewarding to read the recent message from Colin Barnard asking for ideas and suggestions of guest speakers for future Club meetings. Just suggesting topics which might be of general interest to the Club will be a great help to the program committee. Think about the outstanding programs we could schedule. Are you interested in the current phenomenon of tattoos? Would you like to know more about judo and various forms of self-defense? What is the status of drug abuse in our local schools? Have you considered an appendix transplant? How much do you really know about toadstools? Would you like to make Bonsai trees? What should you believe about Global Warming? Is it too late to become a Shakespearian actor? Do you know enough about the practical uses of E-waste? How prepared are you to watch the next Winter Olympics? Would you be intrigued by a program on the history of lace making? What is the downside of rabbit breeding? How about hearing a real explanation on Obamacare? Would you enjoy a program on skateboarding orthopedics? How aware are you of the chemical contents of Dr. Pepper? Have you heard lately about the Flat Earth Society? Could we find an authority to compare baseball statistics of the American and National Leagues? Do you know enough about ocean tides and their various heights? Should we prohibit laugh tracks on political TV reporters? Would you like to hear a program about Jack the Ripper -- Alive and Well in Argentina? Would you enjoy a speaker with time proven excuses when birthdays and anniversaries are forgotten? Should we hear about the Moraga plan for horse-drawn vehicles? What could we learn about fixing traffic tickets? Would you like a demonstration of making sausage at home? Well, you get the idea. Rotary speakers come on all topics. All you have to do is to let your imagination wander. What subjects would make good and exciting programs for our Club meetings? Think about it! Send your ideas to Colin. Or better yet, if you have a brother-in-law who just won a Nobel Prize, or had a new opera performed at the Met go ahead and invite him to speak at our Club. We meet on Tuesdays every week. Im sure the program chairman will thank you profusely! And the Club members will either become well informed, or at least wake up refreshed.

FUN AND OTHER STUFF

After a round of heavy bidding, David Kruegel won the June fine-free hat for $70! Dick Vance confessed to a trip to Connecticut for a class reunion. Obviously, he had a good time, since he settled with Frank for $20. Angelo Costanza had a double-header anniversary with a th th 65 birthday, making him eligible for Medicare, and a 12 wedding anniversary. Celebrations were held at the As game and a fine dinner at Casa Orinda! Congratulations! Nora Avelar told of a trip, plus boy friend, to New Orleans where they sampled all of the appropriate foods and drinks! She also participated in a service project helping to restore houses for Katrina hurricane victims! Her spin of the wheel resulted in a big $5. Gary Irwin sprung for for a high five by recalling that it th was the 40 anniversary of the closing of his home purchase, thus marking his 40 years as a Moragan! Debbie Roessler had a happy buck for the renovation of the Oakland Museum and a fantastic new exhibit section for Natural Sciences. As the meeting faded into the darkness, the red ticket was drawn and held by Louise Schopke. But no white marble!
