Peter Metzger matched that happy dollar by

announcing that Saklan School has just
completed the Spring term with another
successful year!
Evie Michon had a very happy buck for the
excellent season the Golden State Warriors are
having as they proceed with the NBA championship tournment!
Tony Schoemehl had a big buck as he told of

from fellow Rotarians!
Angelo Costanza, sporting the fine-free hat

proud of your achievements and contributions to
our larger community!
As a bonus, Angelo held the red ticket, but alas
could not fine the magic big moneymarble!

PROGRAM OF THE DAY

Todays guest speaker, Dave Luebkeman, gave
a very interesting visual presentation about his
experiences with Plant with a Purpose, a nonprofit charity organization working in 8 countries
of the world. He described how 85% of the
people of the world suffer from hunger. Plant
with a Purpose is an organiztion, originally
started with the poorest people of the Domnican

Republic, where the removal of trees caused

severe damage of the soil and agricultural areas,
resulting in great poverty. The three intertwined
areas of emphasis are: .Planting trees for
environmental restoration; Economic empowerment; and Spiritual renewal. These goals are
achieved through teaching local farmers the
values of soil conservation; sustainable farming
on hillside land; working together with community
mapping; and teaching new techniques of
organic farming and agroforestry. They also
work with micro-finance loans and spiritual
renewal to enrich the personal lives by working
together. This was a splendid story of helping
help hemselves to enhance their poverty stricken
lives. .

DEMOTION DINNER COMING

JUNE 28 SIGN UP NOW
The big social event will be at 6:00 pm on June
28th at the Soda Center, as Moraga Rotary holds
the traditional Demotion Dinner. This annual
event frequently roasts and toasts our outgoing Club President and welcomes the
change-over of Club officers. The special
dinner is $30 per person and sign-ups should be
in advance. This occasion is one in which
spouses and friends are especially invited and
welcomed. Some awards will be given and a
theatrical troop will present an original
production, entitled The Tragic Trial of
President Rajah. Dont miss it if you can!

State Assemblywoman Catherine Baker has

asked our Club to participate in a collection
of food and personal items for our troops
overseas. The collection is hosted by the
Blue Star Moms of Danville.
We will be collecting donations at the next
two meetings. We are told the troops love
things like beef jerky, tuna, protein bars,
peanut butter, trail mix, mints, gum, dried
fruits, nuts and other non-perishable
snacks along with travel sized lip balm,
disposable razors, dental floss and pocket
tissues.
During the first half of June we ask all Club
members to bring grocery bags full of items
for the troops. Cash donations will also be
accepted. We plan to get the material to
the Blue Star Moms by late June.

BOCCE BALL IS IN THE AIR

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 8th is the chance to
practice Bocce Ball at the Martinez Courts at 9:00
am! Come and brush up your skills with Captain
Angelo Costanza! It is suspected that the usual
donuts and coffee will mysteriously show up!
Then on Saturday, June 18th the District Bocce
Ball Tournament is scheduled at the Martinez
Bocce Courts. Moraga Rotary will have 4 teams
entered. This is a great day to have FUN as
many Rotary Clubs will be competing!
Contact Angelo Costanza (925 228 2885) if you
have any questions or would like to compete for
Moraga Rotary or just come on out and watch
and enjoy the fun!

Weekly Reminder

REMEMBER OUR EXCHANGE

STUDENT, ANNA SUNDIN
Many members will remember our Clubs Rotary
Youth Exchange student, Anna Sundin from
Sweden, who spent a year in Moraga about 6
years ago. A recent communication from
Sweden indicated that Anna has completed her
medical school studies and is now a Medical
Intern at Caprio St. Goran Emergency Hospital,
one of the larger hospitals in Stockholm.

Dont I know just one person in the

whole Moraga community who
should be a Rotarian? Then, why am
I not inviting that person to come to
lunch?

Your editors new lifestyle at Moraga Royale

continues to be an everyday learning
experience on handling the aging process. For
example:

Your investment in drooling insurance

is finally beginning to pay off.
The daily cocktail hour can actually
begin at three forty-five!
Things you buy now will probably never
wear out.
In a hostage situation, you are likely to
be released first.
Your life secrets are safe because your
new friends wont remember anything
you share with them.
When the dining room opens, you are
reminded of the Indianapolis Speedway
of walkers and wheelchairs.
You suspect the Bingo game is
somehow rigged.
Its a new experience so just sit back,
accept it, and enjoy getting old. It is
just opening a new chapter in your life!
