The meeting was opened with several pertinent quotes for the day by Doug Damaschino. Several announcements followed: March Madness Game Gary Irwin described a chart on which you can make selections for the winning teams in the NCAA Basketball Championship games. After a detailed explanation of the selection process, it became obvious that some will win and some will lose. So, take your chance and join the game. Special appreciation was added for the outstanding work of Mary Sue Erickson for her vision and decoration of the tables, gift baskets and the entire room! Although the income and expenses have not been finalized, a rough estimate indicates that Moraga Rotary will net in the neighborhood of $14,000 for the service fund! Camp Royale Angelo Costanza reported that two Campolindo High School students have been selected to go to Camp Royal leadership camp in June. Our Club is sponsoring Emily ] Orwig and Newton Kwan to attend the camp. Bocce Ball Bash The annual Rotary Bocce Ball Tournament will be held on June 8th in Martinez. THIS WEEKS PROGRAM

KUDOS OF THE WEEK

The program this week featured our own member, Mike Rosa, who gave us the inside scoop of motorcycle racing. Mike described the various categories of motorcycling racing such as the motocross, enduro, dirt track, crosscountry, and Grand Prix. The American Motorcycle Assoc. is he sanctioning body for races, enforces rules and represents the races in keeping tracks open and in check with governmental regulations. The speaker described some of the costs of racing, the equipment for various types of races, and the skill and age levels for competing. With interesting pictures, he compared the motorcycles, equipment and techniques needed for different classes of racing. Big races may involve 450 to 500 participants and would last over a weekend, with many spectators and family members involved. Mike told of several interesting experiences he has had during his successful racing career. Certainly the audience learned far more they ever knew about the fascinating sport of motorcycling racing. Once again, we find that some of our best programs come from our own members! Well, its over! The Eleventh Annual Moraga Rotary Nite at the Races was another great success. There were so many highlights, it is impossible to mention them all or list the many heroes of the evening. All the set-up work on Friday and Saturday made the room a colorful and festive display of tables and auction items. The great music group at the beginning of the evening and all 18 of the Interacters and Campo Choir members made a big hit with their enthusiasm and energy. The donors and the bidders on the wonderful silent auction items and the delicious DVC baked cakes buyers brought in money for Moraga Rotary service projects. Thanks to Colin Barnard for a masterful job as MC and the Campo student who handled the race projector without a hitch! Thanks must also go to the horse sponsors, even if their horse did not win. We are indebted to the bartenders, and the race track managers who covered the betting and payoff windows, and the team of cashiers and computers experts who handled the purchasers. The caterers did a good job as well as those who stuck around to clean up the hall as

the evening ended. We cant forget those who secured auction items and the hours of writing up the items for the printed program. It is a labor intensive fund raiser, but a lot of fun, as well, if you took an active role in the planning meetings, which consumed many bottles of wine and scads of cheese and crackers! So, to all who pitched in to make it another great evening THANKS!

EDITORIAL COMMENTS
It was just 25 years ago that Rotary International changed its Constitution from an all-male to a dual-gender organization. The admission of women members was a very significant step for service clubs because it recognized the important and expanded role that women were playing in business and professional positions in most parts of the world since the early days when Rotary was established. Today, nearly 20% of the membership of Rotary is composed of women members. At the outset, in some areas, it was a very difficult transition. However, it is now recognized that women members contribute a tremendous amount to the many service and leadership roles of the organization. Moraga Rotary currently has 6 women members. Clearly, this is not a sufficient representation of the many business and professional women, as well as many Moraga volunteer community leaders who should and deserve to be Rotarians. Perhaps the answer is that we have not reached out to these leaders, invited them and followed-up with invitations, shared the warm friendship of the Club members, or shown how the Club contributes service activities in the community and throughout the world. I might suggest that the 6 women Rotarians could take on the task of each one inviting another women member. It would be a great addition Moraga Rotary to share the opportunity with at least 6 more women members. But, the invitations to women leaders should not be limited to our women members. Sharing Rotary is a responsibility and privilege of every member.

A FINAL COMMENT
Kevin Reneau confessed that he missed the Nite at Races because of a business trip to the Bahamas. For the fun in the sun, he paid $20! Debbie Roessler had a happy buck for attending the Paul Harris Society event at the Behring Estate in Blackhawk. It was a super event in fabulous surroundings. Frank May had a high five for seeing the end of the work on the Nite at the Races. Marv Ellenburg had an unhappy buck for the gas he had to use in finding a parking space today! The red ticket was held by Lad Lynch, but the white marble was nowhere to be found!

FUN N STUFF

It is amazing what you hear when people near you are talking loudly on their cell phones. I heard these conversations riding on BART the other day: I just came back from the Library. I read the shortest book Ive ever seen, written by the Environmental Protection Agency, Spotted Owl Recipes. Yeah, about the size of the Amish phone directory For our anniversary my wife wanted to go to someplace really expensive. So I took her down to the local gas station We eat all the healthy things at our house. We follow the 4 major food groups canned, boxed, frozen and fast.
