In the Red
The hottest hue of the season is sophisticated red. “The focus is
on the lips this year,” said Sheila Ingham of The Skin Salon & Day
Spa in Nederland. Along with pencil skirts and nipped-in waists,
bold lips hark back to the Old Hollywood glamour that is all the
rage in fashion. If you are looking for the perfect red, Ingham sug-
gests comparing potential shades with the inside of your bottom lip.
“The right red will complement the color there,” she explained. From blue-reds
to orange-reds, the options can be daunting. “If you have any hesitation, ask a
professional makeup artist to help you pick a shade,” she said. “Nothing can ruin
your outfit like the wrong red lip color.”
Not sure you can pull off this bold look? Try dabbing frosty gloss on top of the
red lipstick to tone it down. “Rather than lining with a red pencil, choose a natu-
ral shade to line and fill in lips and then use the red sparingly on top,” Ingham
suggested. “This will give you a more subtle color.” Don’t try out the red lipstick
on your way out the door. Instead, Ingham suggests experimenting with several
colors well in advance of your event. VIP

F
or Kara Hawthorne, Christmas is a year-
round event. As the chairwoman of the Ju-
nior League of Beaumont’s annual A Very
Merry Main Street Market, Hawthorne and
her committee have spent months planning
Christmas decorations, choosing vendors
and lining up prizes and donations. All her
hard work will pay off this December 2-4,
when thousands of shoppers will flood the
Beaumont Civic Center, searching for that
perfect Christmas gift.
Now in its 15th year, Main Street Market is the only fundraiser
held by the Junior League of Beaumont, a volunteer organization
that supports many local charities. “All of Main Street Market’s
profits go directly to supporting the community projects that the
Junior League funds,” Hawthorne explained. “Projects like the
Family Resource Center Summer Camp, Baptist Hospital’s Chil-
dren’s Unit, the Beaumont Children’s Museum — all of these phi-
lanthropies are supported by our Main Street Market Event.”
Hawthorne, who works as a public relations planner, first
joined the Main Street Market Committee as the public relations
chairwoman. Last year, she helmed the event for the first time,
implementing new ideas with an eye towards profit, resulting in
a Main Street Market that raked in double the earnings of previ-
ous years. “We talked a lot about how we could expand the event

www.bucknercalderwoods.org Experts agree that wealth alone is no guarantee of retirement security;
saving too little “runs up and down the income scale and wealth scale,” says
Olivia S. Mitchell, an insurance and risk-management professor at Wharton.
Comfortable living inevitably translates to spending. Though the wealthy
save, Mitchell explained in the Wharton study, “people with high earnings
also spend a lot” to keep the lifestyle they enjoy going.

Your retirement isn’t likely to be the same as it would have been 50 years
ago. The old adage was that you needed 80% of your current income
when you retire—but nearly half of the 1,800 millionaires surveyed by the
2007 Phoenix Wealth Survey said they will need more than 100%. You may
even be thinking of working indefinitely, at least part-time, in order to stay
engaged and support a comfortable lifestyle. Also, your life expectancy has
increased, even from just a generation ago. Determining your retirement
goals is a complex process—one that means taking the time to figure out
unlimited
what it is you really want now and down the road.
The plan
Worried as you may be, you may not have begun planning. 59% of high net
worth investors have no formal written plan for their retirement goals—but
a retirement analysis can help. We can run this analysis to assess your
financial situation, your potential annual retirement income, your savings
and investments and your tax situation.
Then, it’s time to analyze your retirement goals. Once you know what you
want, we can determine ways to help you get there, whether that involves
altering your investment strategy, changing the amounts you contribute
or something else entirely. The retirement analysis will provide you with a
full report, including savings recommendations and sources for retirement
income.
Talk to your Financial Advisor about how a retirement analysis might benefit
you.
