• OBJECTIVE

To know the influence of light on the growth of plants

• DEVICES AND MATERIALS

• 40 seeds of green beans

• 4 used plastic glasses of mineral water

• coconut bark

• Water

• WORKING PROCEDURES

1. Plant the seeds of green beans in the four plastic glasses that have been

given coconut bark before are wetted with water. Each glass contains 10

seeds of green beans.

2. Keep two plastic glasses in a light place and the others in the dark place.

3. Check the coconut bark that becomes the base for the growth of the

green beans, if it is rather dry, make it wet again by using water.

4. Measure the length of the bud in those two places for 5 days. (choose the

longest bud in each place)

5. Put in the measurement result into the following table.

Places The length of buds on the day-th ... (cm)
1 2 3 4 average
Dark (1) 2,56_1.65 2.03 3,12_5,43 5,28_7,28 4,09
Dark (2) 1,5_0.87 1,3_1,5 1,47_3,5 - 1,95
Light (1) 1,66_1,16 1,76 5,07 6,92 3,72
Light (2) 0,8_O,5 0,9 3,42 7,16 2,99
6. Make the graph of bud’s growth in the light place and the dark place based

on the table.

• QUESTIONS

1. From the data in observation table, calculate the average growth of buds

every day in the light place and the dark place !

2. How is the condition of growth graph in the dark place compared to the

light place ? explain it.

3. What is the influence of light on growth ? explain it.

• ANSWER

1. The average growth table

Places The average growth

Dark (1) 4,09

Dark (2) 1,95

Light (3) 3,72

Light (4) 2,99

2. From the table below, the highest
