The student conducted an experiment to determine the effect of different colored lights on plant growth. Seedlings were placed under red, green, blue, and white lights, and their heights were measured daily for a week. The results showed that the plant under red light grew taller than those under the other colored lights each day. By the seventh day, the plant under red light was the tallest at 4 cm. Therefore, the conclusion was that red light promotes the fastest plant growth.

The Effect of Colored Lights on Plant
Growth Aim • To find out the growth of plants in different color lights.
• To discover if plants grow better in a certain color
light.
• To investigate the growth of plants in lights of
various colors. Hypothesis • Plants will grow better in blue light.
• Plants growth rate is better in certain color
light.
• Different color lights have different impact on
plant growth. Materials • Green, red, blue and white light • Four (4) sets of identical plants • Four (4) pots • Potting soil • A watering can • A ruler Method First of all, plants were cultivated in the pot with potting soil. Then, each plant was placed under a different color light bulb. After that, light bulbs were turned on for 12 hours a day and then the plant was left in darkness for the other 12 hours. (continued on next slide) Method Then, the plants were watered ¼ cup water daily. Next, the height of the plants were measured and recorded in a table each day. Finally, the speed of the plants growth was calculated daily. Results and Discussion The results were recorded in the table below. Height in Centimeters
Red light Green light Blue light White light
Day 1(cm) 2 2 1.7 2.1
Day 2 (cm) 2.5 2.4 2 2.4
Day 3 (cm) 2.75 2.6 2.3 2.6
Day 4 (cm) 3 2.8 2.6 3.0
Day 5 (cm) 3.4 3.0 2.9 3.3
Day 6 (cm) 3.7 3.2 3.2 3.5
Day 7 (cm) 4 3.4 3.5 3.9
Table 1: The effect of colored lights on the plant growth
Results and Discussion The table above shows that on the first day, the plant under the blue light grew 1.7 cm, whereas the plants under red and green lights grew 2 cm each. On the other hand, the plant under the white light was the tallest with 2.1 cm height. Results and Discussion The measurements on day 3 show that the plant under the blue light was again growing slower than all other plants. It grew only 2.3 cm, whereas plants under the green light and the white light grew 2.6 cm tall. However, the plant under the red light was the tallest with 2.75 cm height. Results and Discussion On day 5, the plant under blue light was still the shortest, its height was 2.9 cm, whereas the plant under green light grew 3 cm tall. The plant under the white light was 0.3 cm taller than the plant under the green light. However, the plant under the red light was the tallest with 3.4 cm height. Results and Discussion • On the seventh day, the measurements showed that the plant under green light was the shortest. It grew only up to 3.4 cm, whereas the plant under blue light was slightly taller than the plant under the green light. The plant under the blue light was 3.5 cm tall. It was measured that the plant under the white light was 3.9 cm tall, whereas the plant under the red light turned out to be the tallest among all plants. It grew 4 cm tall. Hence, it was clear from the results that plants grow faster under red color lights. Conclusion After conducting the experiment, the results showed that plants grow at different pace under various color lights. The speed of their growth changes on different days. However, it was seen on the last day that the plant grew faster under red light. This experiment shows that color lights affect growth of plants but red light is the most suitable. The result obtained doesn't confirm the hypothesis that plants grow better in blue light.
