Learning Objectives By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

Activity Pre-Lesson
1. In pairs, pupils write down as many sports as they can remember
in three minutes. (group work)

Activity Pre-Lesson
1. Teacher writes on board: big ←→small, fast ←→slow with symbol
to show they’re opposites.
2. Pupils elicit animals that are big, small, fast, slow. Are any animals
small and slow? (snail) Big and fast? (cheetah).
3. Teacher explains these words are adjectives. They describe
things.
Lesson Development
1. Pupils are asked to read adjectives in p.8 Activity 1. Teacher
explains that they are going to read a text with 8 adjectives in
blue.Pupils read and listen (CD 1-09). With a partner, they match
blue words with their opposites in the box. (21st CA)Pupils read text
again and answer questions about the three children in Activity 2.
Pupils read text again and write three sentences about things in their
bag starting with: I’ve got ___ and using an adjective from Activity 1.

2. Pupils in pairs swap sentences and find adjectives in their
descriptions. Are they the same or different from their partner’s

Activity Pre-Lesson
1. Using a picture of a child, teacher plays a guessing game about
their personal details (age, nationality, where they’re from, family,
hobbies etc.) to review key language.
Lesson Development
Teacher hand out the example email (SB p 11) and tell pupils it is the
email from this child.Pupils read the email and check their answers
(from the pre-lesson stage).Teacher directs pupils' attention to the
email and the title and ask them to guess what it is going to be about.
(It's about a boy who likes football.) (21st CA)Teacher plays the CD1
(Track 15) and ask pupils to follow along in their books. Teacher
asks pupils comprehension questions such as the following:

Learning Objectives By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

Activity Pre-Lesson
1. Teacher writes the word ‘Adjectives’ in centre of a mind map.
2. Pupils elicit adjectives from previous lesson and write them around
a mind map. Pupils tell you any opposite adjectives on the board.
Lesson Development
1. Teacher writes: very, really, quite on board. Model sentences
with words in context e.g. I’m very / really interested in music.
Ask: What kind of words go after very, really, quite? (HOTS)
2. Pupils read through the key phrases with the class. Point out the
different of adverbs of degree. Pupils write eight sentences using
the adjectives and key phrases individually. Pupils memorise two
of their sentences then in pairs tell each other. (CBA)
3. Teacher draws a table on board with headings TV programmes,
Places, People and Games or Films. Elicit sentences from pupils
and write on board the programmes, places etc. they mention
under each heading. Which are the most popular in each of the
four groups?
4. Pupils re-read text from p.8 Activity 1, which they did in previous
lesson. They find examples of: has got, have got, hasn’t got and
haven’t got. Choose pupils to give examples and to say if they
are from Paul’s, Ben’s or Maria’s text or from Activity 2.
5. Teacher reads the table in p.9 Activity 3 with pupils when they
complete it.

1. Pupils are asked to create a mask and tell their story about the
falling tooth in groups.
2. In group, pupils discuss on how to create the mask. (21st CA)
3. Teacher encourages pupils to use connectors (first, next and
finally) in their story so that it is easier to narrate it.
4. Teacher provides time for pupils to create the mask of a person
with a loose tooth (either boy or girl) and their story based on
their imagination and creativity. (HOTS)
5. Then, pupils take turn to narrate their story. (CBA)

1. Teacher sticks pictures of people doing a sport and/or a leisure
activity on the board. On the board write: My name is ..., I'm from ...,
I'm ... years old, In this picture I'm ... Teacher asks different pupils to
talk about themselves and their favourite sports/leisure activities.

Lesson Development
1. Pupils are divided into pairs or small groups. Teacher tells them
to take out their pictures and talk about themselves and the
sport/leisure activities they like. (CBA)
2. Teacher directs pupils’ attention to the Writing tip and read it out
aloud.
3. Pupils are explained on the writing tips.
4. Pupils are asked to write their own email, based on the pictures
they brought. If possible, have pupils use computers for this
activity and/or send their email to a classmate. If possible, have
pupils send/give their emails to a friend. Pupils respond informally
(orally or in writing) to the email they received.
Post-Lesson
Ask pupils to think back on their learning. In their learning diary, they
can write new words I they remember and activities they enjoyed.

sound similar in English and Malay (or other languages pupils

Activity 2: Say: Listen then find the blue word. e.g. What is
something we wave on special days. What word means a person

Help pupils to notice endings of nationalities by writing -ish, -an -
ian, -ese on board. (HOTS)Teacher holds up three flash cards
(Where? What? Who?) and elicit examples of questions that start

2. Pupils read key phrases in Activity 3. They listen to (CD1.12)
again. With a different partner, they complete the five sentences.

Activity Pre-Lesson
Teacher brings in realia in a bag/box (seashell, egg shell, coconut,

teacup, etc). Get pupils to come up and choose an object from the
box without seeing it. They touch and feel the object and describe it
to the class. Pupils guess what the object is. Repeat for all the other
objects.
Lesson Development
1. Pupils are divided into groups. Give each group an object
(seashell, eggshell, hollow coconut, teacup). Ask pupils where
they can find those objects. Get pupils to put the objects to their
ears and listen closely. (21st CA)
2. Pupils describe the sounds they think they can hear. Encourage
them to be imaginative and creative. Describe worksheet 1.
3. Teacher gives one stanza to each group. Pupils read the stanza
in their groups.
4. A representative from each group will pass the stanza they have
to the group that has the correct object. Each group reads its
stanza aloud with actions
5. Teacher tells pupils that the theme for today’s lesson is ‘Magic’.
6. In groups, pupils discuss and decide what other sounds they can
hear from the objects in the poem (seashell, eggshell, hollow
coconut, teacup). (HOTS)
7. Pupils then rewrite any one stanza of the poem (worksheeet 2),
with the new sound that they hear.
Example: I listened to a coconut
and thought I could hear
the sound of a fish swimming
inside my ear.
