RE:COPYING AT YORK UNIVERSITY
York University’s licence with Access Copyright to make copies of publishedmaterial expires on December 31, 2010. Access Copyright represents certaincopyright owners and collects license fees on their behalf from institutions for photocopying of their published material.Copies of published material may still be made after the Access Copyright licenceexpires if:(1) you have permission or another licence from the copyright owner tocopy the material; or (2) the copying is done within the definition of “fair dealing”.
Fair Dealing
The law permits copying that is defined as “fair dealing”. Fair dealing is making acopy of a portion of a work for the purposes of your research, private study, criticism,review, or news reporting subject to
certain conditions

for those conditions.
Licences
York University Libraries has negotiated copyright licences directly with publishersto permit members of the university community to copy without payment of additional fees. York University Libraries has also purchased digital subscriptions toallow access and copying of many journals.In addition, there are public domain materials and works available for copyingthrough open access or Creative Commons licences.
