Environ® Roll-CIT™ 1 mm micro-needling
is a revolutionary way to stimulate normal

swelling and modest to no bruising. Micro-
needling allows you to return to work the
day after treatment with no outward signs
other than some flushed skin similar to
that caused by exposure to the sun.
The procedure consists of a series of six
micro-needling sessions carried out at
intervals ranging from one week to one
month, depending on the required degree
of improvement.
A major advantage of micro-needling
is that it can be used for a number
of conditions and body locations: lax
skin or wrinkles on the face, upper lip
lines, neck, décolleté, arms, abdomen,
buttocks and legs. It is also used to
treat shallow acne scars and stretch
marks. Surgical needling (3mm) is
appropriate for deeper scars.
Principle of Micro-needling
Roll-CIT™ micro-needling causes micro-
scopic breaks in the blood vessels
immediately below the surface layer of
the skin (epidermis). This action releases
blood platelets that are responsible for
blood clotting when, for example, a blood
vessel has been opened.

The blood platelets release a series of
growth factors that promote the production
of collagen, elastin, growth factors and
other substances. In turn, collagen and
elastin help to tighten and smooth the skin.
We therefore need to boost this chain of
events in order to promote as much elastin
and collagen production as possible. This
all occurs at a microscopic level.
Role of Vitamins A and C
Collagen production can be boosted by
preparing the skin with Vitamin A prior to
the micro-needling treatment. An enhanced
state of collagen and elastin production is
then maintained by continuing the skin care
regime through the six sessions.
Vitamin A acts on a DNA group of some
1,000 genes and, among its many actions,
stimulates the production of collagen.
While vitamin A activates the factories for
collagen and elastin, normal collagen
cannot be produced without vitamin C.
Vitamin C applied topically is therefore an
essential co-factor to be applied with the
vitamin A.

to deliver high doses of vitamin C that

levels of vitamin C necessary to produce
larger amounts of collagen. vitamin C itself
also stimulates the production of collagen
through DNA activity.
In order to promote even greater collagen
and elastin formation, and thus skin
normalization, other special treatments are
also recommended. These treatments
involve the application of special Environ®
serums infused into the skin using a
combination of iontophoresis and
sonophoresis. The Ionzyme® DF Machine,
patented by Environ,® is the only equipment
in the world that has this property. Highly-
trained skin care therapists undertake these
weekly treatments during the course of the
micro-needling program.
Preparation for Micro-needling
The skin must be prepared thoroughly prior
to micro-needling treatment. On average,
one skin cycle should be sufficient to bring
about skin changes to promote healing,
improve skin resistance and to augment
collagen production. The application of
Environ® Ionzyme® C−Quence gel and
cream is highly recommended for a
minimum of three weeks prior to micro-
needling treatment. Longer periods of
preparation are associated with faster
healing and better results.
Micro-needling Procedure
Immediately prior to treatment, remove all
make-up and cosmetic creams. Because of
its tea tree oil component, Environ® Sebuwash
is highly recommended. The patient’s skin
will then be cleaned with ethyl alcohol
followed by ether to remove all oils on the
skin’s surface, allowing the anaesthetic
cream to penetrate effectively. This cleansing
treatment may sting a little for people with
sensitive skins but it is an essential part of
preparing the skin for anaesthesia.
A topical anaesthetic cream is then applied
to the skin. The area is usually covered with
cling film to ensure effective skin anaesthesia.
Anaesthesia takes about 30 minutes.
Once anaesthesia has fully developed over
the treatment area, the physician will start
the micro-needling process. The patient
may feel the roller working on the skin and

some people are aware of a small sensation
but, if the anaesthetic has worked well, this
should not be painful. If the patient has a
particularly low pain threshold or is very
anxious, an analgesic or tranquiliser can
be provided before the procedure starts.
Once micro-needling is complete, the
treated skin should be washed with Sebuwash
in the usual way. Environ® EasentiA Oil,
formulated with a high percentage of
vitamins A, C and E should be applied.
After the treatment, the patient can expect
to appear as if being exposed to the sun
for quite a long time.
Care after Micro-needling
The normal skin care regime should continue
both day and night. The patient will easily
be able to return to work and normal
social life the day after the treatment.
About 10 days after the procedure, the
skin will become more radiant and will
earn admiring comments.

news that may explain why patients
do better with Environ® product use.
Research being done at Hanover
University in Germany has shown that

to needling. I like to keep patients
on Environ® for at least one to three
months before doing the needling.
The 1 mm needling is easy to do in
your consulting rooms. All you need
to use is a 4% to 6% tetracaine
anaesthetic mixture.
We find that we can needle an area
for about five minutes, so we do
