Class History
In September of 1948, one hundred nine students enrolled as Freshmen
of L. H. S . We "Green- Freshies" lived through our Initiation Day and be-
gan the year by electing as our class officers: President, Bill Don Wilson;
Vice - President, Barbara Hubble; and Secretary- Treasurer, Shirley Moun-
ier.
As Sophomores, one hundred two started off the year with Janice Cox,
President; Barbara Hubble, Vice - President; and Bill Don Wilson, Secre-
tary - Treasurer.
When as Juniors we again entered L. H. S., our enrollment had dropped
to eighty- nine, We elected Barbara Hubble, President; Janice Cox, Vice -
President; and Bill Don Wilson, Secretary - Treasurer. We spent many
hours at the candy counter at noon and at the concession stand during the
ball games, making money for our Junior - Senior trip to Chicago. Some
of the boys of our class helped the basketball team win the W. 1. C . Cham-
pionship.
As this history is being written, the Senior Class of 1952 has seventy-
one member s. We have elected as our clas s offic er s: President, Sam
Winters; Vice- President, Barbara Hubble; and Secretary- Treasurer, Bill
Don Wilson.
Last spring, a committee, who worked during the summer, was picked
to plan this issue of the Revue . Our sales of magazines and stationary
brought us a profit of $350 which helped to finance this annual.
Several of our boys were on the football team which had a perfect sea-
s on last fall and won the W. 1. C. Championship and the Wabash Valley
Championship. Several Seniors will be playing their last basketball games
this season, and we hope they will also have a succe s sful season.
Our plans f or the remainder of the year include a class play and a
Junior - Senior trip to Washington, D . C . Throughout the year, various ways
of making money were used by both the Juniors and the Seniors to finance
this trip . Among these was a performance of the " Grand Ole Opry" of
Nashville , Tenne s see. Digitized By:

Prophecy
This is Myrtle Louella Parsons reporting on Station L.H.S. The
occasion is the annual get-together of the 1952 graduating class. Although
many have aged in the past 20 years, everyone is in a jolly mood, including
their dear old sponsor, Mr. John R. Andrew.
We have with us many well-known travelers of the day. Ronnie Abrell,
the big game hunter, has just completed an expedition along Eel River
and Coal City.
Pat Tumey, a well-known buyer for Murphy's, has just returned from
a buying trip out East.
Among our many celebrities, we find Tillie Shearn and Doris Moody.
They do a dual song and dance routine on Broadway. Their latest appear-
ance was in the Broadway Musical "Down and Out."
Sam Winter s, the well-known football coach at Purdue, is really
strutting around. It seems that his team has just won the Big Ten Con-
ference Championship.
Three of our very sweet, shy, and attractive girls have joined "Paul's
Follies." The owner is Paul Elkins, and the leads in the show are Betty
Haussin, Alice Richardson, and Janice Cox.
Bill Sahm, the nationally known inventor, has just received a patent
on his latest invention, windshield wipers for eye glasses. He thought of
the idea one night while walking home in the rain from staff meeting.
The Honorable Jim Yount, senator from Indiana, has just returned from
a jaunt to Cuba. This very famous senator is the one who has succeeded
in spons oring a bill to have a nation wide speed limit of 85 mile s per
hour.
Budd Hebb, who has just taken his ship, the "Round-about," on its
fourteenth journey around the world, is confined to his home with sea
sickne s s.
Glen Durham, the owner of the Cities Service Corner, has just an-
nounced the new prices on gasoline, 82.6 cents per gallon. Inflation is now
with us.
Jerry Hale and Richard Tribby now have large farms of their own.
They have the neatest and cleanest hog pens in Greene County.
Another of our very well-known members of the class is Philomene
Vits. She was the first woman to drive in the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race.
Having broken all speed records, she is now concentrating on air racing.
Ralph Argabright, the "motor bike kid," is still riding his "putt-putt"
around. Some people absolutely never give up.
Three of our young men married into money. They are Vernon Vaughn,
Richard Watson, and George Wright. Their wives were 89, 91, and 87
respectively. Something tells me they married for money. By the way,
they are now widowers.
Meredith Cooper, the famous auto designer and builder, has just come
out with an outstanding automobile called "Geronimo." It seems as though
he got his ide as from an old "clunker" he drove during his high school
days. Anyone wanting a demonstration please have all insurance paid up,
and be prepared for anything.
Robert Davidson, a prominent lawyer, has just completed a very im-
portant case. Rumors are that he will run for judge of the Greene County

Circuit Court in the next election.
Jim Wagner just couldn't get over being manager for the Linton
Miners, so he has secured a position of managing the Linton Diggers
(aprofessional football team). Some of the players on his team are Jack
Pinkston, a star guard, "Red" Murdock, just a star, and "Curly" Hudson,
a star in the backfield. It seems these fellows just couldn't get over
football.
As we look around, we find five very happy young women. They are
Ann Muehler, Carole Shepard, Carolyn Hatcher, Shirley White, Dorothy
Deitz, and Marilyn Hightower. Ann, who just simply loves rich army
officers, is still looking for one. Carole, a United States envoy to Rus sia,
/ has just returned from a secret mission to Moscow. By the way, Joseph
II turned down her proposal. Carolyn is now a blind checker for a large
chain of movie theaters. It seems as though she once pulled a funny one
about a blind checker, so she decided to take the job. Shirley is still
looking for a man. If you see any rich, good looking, intelligent, and
mannerly young man, with a car, please let her know. Marilyn, who went
into the education field, is now president of Vassar College for young
women. It is a very cheap school, only $2,000 per semester. Just call
her if you are interested in enrolling your young lady -in Vassar. Dorothy
is now a shorthand teache r in an Indianapolis high school. It seems as
though she carne to Linton High School with more shorthand than we had
ever heard of.
Our own little Judy Maxwell and Patty Moore are still working in our
local theaters. They are still selling tickets. Prices are still going up
($1.25 a head) .
Jack Conklin, the boy with many names, is now coaching basketball.
The name of George sort of took hold of him. He has a winning team.
They have never scored under 70 points per game and their average height
is 6 feet 6 inches.
Rodney Haworth is now the country doctor of Lyons and community.
He always did show an interest in Lyons.
One of the great technicians of the day is Evelyn Steele. She is head
technician at Mayo's Clinic in Minnesota.
We see some married couples in our midst. They are Mr. & Mrs.
Jerry (Bonnie Harbin) Wright, Mr. & Mrs. Keith (Darlene Greene) Ander-
son, and Mr. & Mrs. Frank (Janet Justus) Henico. They are all sporting
large families and many smiles.
Charles "Johnny Lujack" Donie is now head football coach at Notre
Dame. He is one of the most famous coaches in America today. He
picked up the nickname of Johnny Lujack in his high school days. He
was so named by our beloved coach, Roy Williams.
Jim Branstetter, well-known yacht and airplane de signer, has just
completed several models. He will soon start on a yacht propelled by
atomic power.
A new business has just been set up in town. It is Barbara Richardson
and her Crosley automobile garage and sales room. Crosley has just put
out a 3 - seated model. She seems to be doing very well.

As we look around further, we find Danny Brown, a famous artist,
sketching scenes of the group. His supplies are from Marjorie McGriffin's
Art Store. She is doing a very profitable business.
Carl West and George Mercier are two more great inventors of our
times. They haven't envented anything in the past 20 years, but they haven't
given up yet.
Muril Blume is now the owner of the largest coal mine in Indiana. Coal
prices have gone up quite a bit ($20 per ton) but Linton High School is buy-
ing coal from him. There are still some complaints about the heat there.
Jim Prudhomme has made his home near Reno, Nevada. At the age
of 21 he has been married 11 times and divorced 10 times. His home is
very close to his business. He is suing his 11th wife for cruel and inhuman
treatment.
Bill Wilson and his company of actor and actresses have just completed
their 13th picture. Bill is now head director of the M.G.M. Movie Company.
Their latest picture is "Baby it's cold outside" or "Come' onna my house."
Maita Powell is now art teacher for Linton High School. Her methods
aren't so artistic, but she gets re suIts.
Dolores Vickers is now traveling with a women's basketball team.
Helen Walker signed her up the night they gave a performance in the Linton
gym.
A few of our girls married as soon as school was out. They are Rose-
lyn McDaniel, Sara Reynolds, and Eva Fish. They are now married and
they have rings to show it. One on her finger and one through his nose I
We have just received a note from Mary Gann inviting us all to the
opening of her new skating rink. Does anyone have an extra pillow?
If you have any clothes you want mended, take them to Wilma Taylor,
"The Happy Seamstress." She specializes in tea towels and handkerchiefs.
Grace Brinson is now commercial teacher at Linton High School. She
is now dictating shorthand at 100 words per minute.
Barbara Lynn is now teaching kindergarten. It seems she went to
college 7 year s and kindergarten is the only job she could get.
We still have with us our "Giggling Girties." They are Janet Bellamy,
Hazel Mason, Betty Wheeler, and Willa Perkins. If you want a good demon-
stration on a laugh, ask one of these girls.
Hubert GoodInan is trophy polisher for Linton High School. The year
1952 added so many trophys to the case they had to employ a full time
polisher.
Charles Taylor is now touring the country as a speed typist. He was
always 4 lines ahead of everyone else, so he decided to do exhibition work.
Otis Thomas, light commissioner, has just announced new electricity
rates. The minimum is now $10.00 per month.
Bill Reynolds and Harry Lehman, construction engineers, have just
announced the completion of two new paved highways -- one to Lone Tree
and the new super highway no. 23. The roads are very heavily traveled.

In the 1951 Latin I finals, Phil earned a bronze medal
Leona scored 127 out of a in the 1950 Latin I finals
possible 130 points and was and another bronze medal
awarded a silver medal. in the 1951 geometry fin-
als.

The High Schoo 1 Achievement program is sponsored by Indiana University. Each year, contests are held
throughout the state in Latin, English, algebra, geometry, and comprehensive mathematics. For compe-
tition in each of these subjects, each school may select two students to take part in regional contests.
After scores from all regionals have been reported, the students whose scores place them in approxi-
mately the upper 50 per cent in the state take part in the final contests held at Indiana University.
The scores of five Linton students qualified them to enter the finals at Bloomington. These were: Phil
Akre and Robert Trotter (geometry); Barbara Hubble (Latin II); Leona Duffroy and Joan Haussin (Latin 1).
In the final contests, awards of gold, silver, and bronze medals are given to those whose scores place
them in the upper 20 per cent of all state finalists.

Football Coaches
Mr. Williams, our football coach, deserves
a lot of credit toward making our team the
champions they were. He has worked hard
the past few years to develop such a team and
has attained such honors that only a great
coach can.

Mr. Wade, Roy's able assistant, has also

worked hard to develop such a team. He worked
considerably with the line and developed them
into a line any coach could be proud of. Hats
off to two wonderful football coaches.

Trophys
This is the trophy presented to the Linton Miners
1951 football team for winning the Wabask Valley Champ-
ionship. It was presented to the team under the spon-
sorship of the Tere Haute Tribune-Star. The presen-
tation was made to Bill Wilson and Jim Yount, co -
captains of the 1951 team.

-
This is the trophy presented to the L.H.S. Miners
football team for winning the Western Indiana Conference
Championship. We played 5 W.1. Co teams and won all
five of these games, giving us a percentage of 1,000. In
these 5 games we scored a total of 187 points while keeping
our opponents to 42 points.

1951 Football Highlights
LINTON 13-CLINTON 7 The Linton Miners, with 9 regulars back from last year, started the season with
a bang, by winning the W.I.C. lid lifter from Clinton. The game really started rolling whe.n Bud Klein
scored the first T D of the season with only 5 1/2 minutes of the first period gone. The other T D was scored
by Bill Wilson and a kick by Jim Yount, after the first TD gave us 13 points to Clinton's 7. Perfect foot-
ball weather attracted a large crowd to the local Oliphant Field for the opener.
LINTON 33-GARFIELD 14 The Linton Miners roared to their second victory by flying over Garfield of Terre
Haute. Again we scored the first time we took possession of the pigskin. Our TD's were scored by Yount,
Wilson (2), Henico, and Klein. Jim Yount converted 3 times for points after touchdowns. This gave the
Miners their second W.I.C. victory and a rating in the State.
LINTON 31- UNIVERSITY HIGH (BLOOMINGTON) 14 The Linton Miners in their game with University
High had very little respect for the Univee's unbeaten record, and the fact that they hadn't been scored
on. TD's were made by Wilson, Henico (2), and Yount (2). Yount made one conversion during the
evening . He also made an exciting run for our 5th TD. The Univees were generally out-weighed. The
Miner subs gained valuable experience during the second half.
LINTON 55-WILEY 0 The Linton Miners on the Victory March continued to look like the top team in the
W.I.C. Wiley had no defense whatsoever against Frank Henico's passing which accounted for one T D and
led to the others. Other touchdowns were scored by Wright (2), Yount, Wilson, Abrell, Prudhomme, and
Klein. Yount converted 7 times for points after touchdowns. The Miners had 3 touchdowns called back
on penalties. This added to the Wiley cause. With 4 games listed on our victory page we had scored 132
points-while keeping our opponents to 33.
LINTON 41-BICKNELL 7 Linton's rampaging Miners continued on their unbeaten ways by blasting the
Bicknell Bulldogs. Bill Wilson made 2 fabulous runs for two TD's of the evening. Other TD's were made
by Henico, Wright (2), and Bryan. Conversions were made by Yount (3), Donie, and Prudhomme. The
largest crowd of the year was on hand to see the Miners dispose of one of their oldest rivals. We were
still one of the 7 major undefeated and untied teams in Hoosier Football Warfare.
LINTON 21-GEORGETOWN, ILL. 14 Linton's undefeated Miners stormed a game nearer to the Wabash
Valley Championship by downing a rough and ready Georgetown eleven. This game had a story book
ending when Henico threw a 60 yard pass to Wilson in the last 21 seconds. Klein was somewhat shaken up
during the line play with the determined Buffaloes. An item from the Georgetown News said "The Buffaloes
were not receiving much comfort from their scouts when tltey were told that the only way to stop Linton
was to put up a road block south of the Vermilion River and keep them out of town." TD's were scored
by Henico (2) and Wilson. Yount converted for 3 extra points.
LINTON 45-DUGGER 7 Linton inched closer to the W.I.C. Championship by stomping Dugger. The be-
ginning of the 3rd quarter saw the first stringers on the bench as spectators. TD's were made by Wilson (2),
Hineman, North (2), and Tucker (2). Conversions of count 2 were made by Yount. At the end of 7 games
we had scored 239 points and had held our opponents to 63.
LINTON 50-JASONVILLE 0 Rain and mud had no effect on the scoring power of the Miners as they over-
powered a strong but inexperienced Jasonville team. Henico and Wilson teamed up to score all 8 TD's
and the 2 conversions. Jasonville's Hardesty almost scored in the last few minutes, but good blocking on
the part of the Miners' line held them scoreless. Linton made the big ten in the State for the first time
this season. They are tied for tenth place.
LINTON 52-MARSHALL, ILL. 0 The victory over the Marshall team was the ninth of the season. They
now needed a victory over Sullivan to assure themselves of a Wabash Valley Championship. Henico (3),
Wright, Yount, Prudhomme, Bryan, and Wilson accounted for Linton TD's. Yount (3) and Henico converted
for extra points.
LINTON 41-SULLIVAN 14 This was by far the most exciting game of the season. The fact was that two
championships rested on our winning this game. We were one of the 4 undefeated teams in the State.
Six-pointers were made by Yount (2), Wilson (2), and Prudhomme, and Henico. Five points after touch-
downs were made by Yount. After this game we ranked 8th in the entire State.

The Linton Miners basketball team, after a very successful season last year, started things off with a
bang, by winning 5 straight games. Although we lost to Shelburn by 3 points, the team continued to win.
After wins over Bicknell and a fast improving Switz City team, we were again upset by Garfield. This was
our first Western Indiana Conference tilt. We scored a 20 point win over Sullivan in another W. 1. C. game,
and then concentrated on the Wabash Valley Tournament.
After three tough tournament games, we succeeded in winning the preliminary. We then went to Terre
Haute where we were beaten in our second game by Vincennes Central Catholic.
With Gerstmeyer of Terre Haute as new holder of the Wabash Tournament Crown, we started again, but
this time we started off on the wrong foot. Wiley defea ted us for our second W. 1. C. loss.
After winning two more conference tilts we traveled to Princeton to meet a strong and experienced
team. After losing this game and returning home we engaged in the "battle of the brothers" between
Hank and George Pearcy. This game was added to our string of victories.
We of Linton High School feel we have had a quite successful season. This has been made possible
through the cooperation of the team , fans, faculty, and coaches.

Golf

SAM WINTERS MR. PIRTLE JIM WHITE

Golf is Linton High School's newest sport. At present it has been in existence for two years. Each year
has seen improvement, and this year's team is expected to be much better than the previous two. Last
year the Miner team played the following schedule: Lincoln of Vincennes (once), Garfield (twice),
Bloomington (once), Wiley (twice), Sullivan (twice), and the WIAC meet. Their season's record was two
wins, six losses, and third place in the WIAC.
This year's team, made up of veterans, will play such teams as Vincennes, Garfield, Bloomington,
Wiley, and Sullivan.

WHO ARE GOLF LETTERMEN?

In order to be a golf letterman one has to have an average of two points for each match played. How are
points scored? Each playerreceives one point for each match he plays in. Then he may receive a possible
three points in actual playing on a "match-match-medal" basis . That is, in a meet each player has one
opponent whom he plays for a point on the first nine holes, a point on the second nine, and a point on the
total score,
