Role Overview:
To develop and maintain strong external and internal communications
at a ABC Newspaper
• Support the national communications strategy
• Build the Commission’s reputation by increasing awareness and
understanding of our work among our external audiences.
• Support the ABC’s Director as ambassador for the Commission,
building the ABC brand so that it becomes known as a major player in
helping increase social inclusion.
• Market the services available to legal aid clients in Chandigarh.
• Cultivate strong relationships with the regional/local media (print and
broadcast) to deliver the Commission’s messages confidently and
regularly, positively and accurately and so that they are of local interest.
• Develop relations with key activists/stakeholders at regional level, to
help us resolve local problems, locally and to generate new and
innovative activities with local partners.
• Facilitate the communication of key corporate messages within the
Wales office/s.
• Champion cultural change to achieve communication excellence
• Ensure ongoing regional input towards creating a shared corporate
vision and celebrating our achievements.
• Ensure effective communications between Chandigarh, other regional
offices and head office.
• Effectively manage key communications channels including local
publications, intranet/internet etc.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:


Fluent English speaker
• Excellent writing skills, with the ability to articulate messages clearly
and concisely in an engaging style.
• Experience of marketing,
• At least 2 years experience of effective media relations, including
building and maintaining relationships with journalists, researching
stories, identifying media angles, organising press conferences and
writing press releases.
• Able to demonstrate positive press coverage achieved as a result of
own initiatives.
• Knowledge of local press
• Speech writing and preparing presentations.
• Experience of internal communications including communication of
key corporate messages in a relevant and engaging style for local
employees.
• Experience of managing the production of printed material, including
brochures, leaflets, briefing third party designers/printers to ensure
corporate brand and style is met.
• Planning and managing public events.
• Understanding of the region and its key social challenges.
Selection of Applicant

Policy

The selection of applicant shall be based upon a relative consideration


of their qualifications for the position to be filled. Using fair and valid
selection criteria, the agency shall review the credentials of each
applicant and determine who possesses the minimum qualifications.
From those applicants who meet the qualified minimum qualifications,
a pool of the most qualified candidates shall be identified. The pool of
the most candidates shall be those individuals determined to be
substantially more qualified than other applicants. The individual
selected for the position must be chosen from the pool of the most
qualified applicants.

Selection procedures and methods shall be validly related to the duties


and responsibilities of the vacancy to be filled.

Applicants must furnish true, accurate, and complete


information and documentation. When an agency discovers
that an applicant provided false or misleading information on a
application, the following shall occur:
(1) When an agency discovers, prior to employment that an
applicant provided false or misleading information in order to
meet position qualifications, the applicant shall be disqualified
from consideration for the position in question.
• Disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, shall be
taken, but the severity of such action shall be at the discretion
of the agency head.

Through the cracks or being fooled by someone who is very impressive


in the interview process.

We go over the job analysis, roles and responsibilities, and compare the
applicant’s qualifications and skills during the selection process

We have used a series of evaluation tools that includes

Written test, Oral tests and other Practical tests

Our selection panel found many inappropriate applicants around 60%


of total applicants failed during written tests.

We select 4 potential applicants; however, we re- selected 1
applicant among the four. Mr. X was the one who is most
compatible with the job, the skills he possesses.

Decision-making is often facilitated by statistically combining


applicants' ratings on different attributes to form a ranking or

Requirement of Communication Director

With high ambitions for diversifying our resources and


positioning ABC better as a modern development organisation,
there are high expectations of ABC’s communication team. The
team – which is part of ABC’s Business Development Unit –
consists of 4 full time communication employees.
For this team we are looking for an enthusiastic communication
Director with enough seniority and an excellent network in the
journalism to give a serious boost to ABC’s profiling and
position in the Chandigarh and Punjab.
