Potterfield, has become a Friends of NRA 2011 National Corporate
Sponsor for a second consecutive year with a donation of $50,000.
The pledge will be used to provide funding for NRA Foundation
programs dedicated to youth and women’s shooting sports, range
development and law enforcement such as the Eddie Eagle GunSafe®
program, Refuse to be a Victim® and Women on Target®.

Larry Potterfield was integral in the creation of Friends of NRA. The first
chapter, founded in 1992 in Columbia, Missouri, held its banquet in the
MidwayUSA headquarters. After nearly two decades, Friends of NRA has
expanded to over 12,000 events held across the United States.
“This new corporate sponsorship program was established in
2010 with MidwayUSA being the first to contribute $50,000.

The ruling comes just days before the ban on mail order sales of so called
“handgun ammunition” was set to take effect. Many of the nation’s
largest mail-order and on-line ammunition retailers had already
announced that they would soon end sales to California residents. If the
law had gone into effect, it would have required that “handgun
ammunition” be stored out of the reach of customers, that ammunition
vendors collect ammunition sales registration information and
thumbprints from purchasers, and that vendors conduct transactions
face-to-face for all deliveries and transfers of “handgun ammunition.”

Fortunately, the court agreed that AB 962 is unconstitutionally vague on

its face because it fails to provide sufficient legal notice of what

therefore regulated as “handgun ammunition” under AB 962. The law
gives no explanation of how to determine what cartridges are
“principally for use in” handguns.

The state is likely to appeal this important victory, and anti-gun

lawmakers in Sacramento will undoubtedly try again to destroy lawful
ammunition sales in California. Only the ongoing support and activism

With H.R. 308, Rep. McCarthy is pursuing the agenda of banning guns
and magazines that she brought to Washington 14 years ago. In 2003,
2005 and 2007, Rep. McCarthy introduced bills that, like H.R. 308,
would have banned magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Those
bills would also have banned all firearms that were subject to the federal
“assault weapon” ban of 1994-2004 and all firearms made specifically to
comply with the 1994 ban. They would also have banned all semi-
automatic shotguns, commonly owned semi-automatic rifles that don’t
use detachable magazines of any size, and other commonly owned
firearms.

H.R. 308 would severely violate the fundamental, individual right to

keep and bear arms for self-defense. The Supreme Court has ruled that
the Second Amendment protects the fundamental, individual right to
high capacity gun magazine keep and bear arms for self-defense, especially arms that are commonly
owned. Firearms designed to use magazines that hold more than 10
rounds are among the most commonly owned self-defense guns today.

If you own magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds, H.R. 308
would also put you at risk of prosecution. Because virtually no existing
magazines bear any markings that show when they were made, H.R. 308
would require that magazines made after the ban be marked to
distinguish them from pre-ban magazines. However, the bill’s
“grandfather clause” for possession of pre-ban magazines would only
create an affirmative defense — forcing defendants to prove that they
possessed the magazines before the ban. This nearly impossible
requirement is a major difference from the 1994 ban, which put the
burden of proof on the government.

Maryland --(Ammoland.com)- The 2011 Session opened quietly but
ominous storm clouds are on the horizon.
We no longer enjoy a 6-5 majority in the Senate Judicial Proceedings
Committee (JPR) and the voting mix of the House Judicial Proceedings
Committee (JUD) is uncertain.
In the Senate, 37 incumbents remain, 7 former Delegates are now
Senators, and 3 new members with no legislative experience in the
Senate.
The House of Delegates now has 111 incumbents and 30 new members.
Over the next 4 years, your participation (or lack of participation) will
determine the direction gun legislation will take. Martin O’Malley, riding
on the crest of his decisive 2nd victory over Robert Ehrlich has no
concern about being re-elected. Thus, he has nothing to fear if he decides
to promote a Glendenning style gun control agenda.
The recent attack in Tucson has already become a springboard for gun
control legislation across the nation which is being promoted by
legislators who are not above exploiting a tragedy.

Carry Permit Reciprocity Bill
Delegate Mike Smigiel’s carry permit reciprocity bill will be heard by the
House Judiciary Committee in Room 101 of the House Office Building. If
passed, this bill will cause Maryland to recognize concealed carry permits
issued by Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Pennsylvania. This is the
first step toward having full reciprocity which will make Maryland
concealed carry permits valid in these states.
