Personal Summary
I am an experienced manager with a strong financial background and additional strengths in
IT, Marketing and Man Management, who is now looking for a more rewarding challenge.

I consider myself a very conscientious, hard working person with good communication,
organisational and interpersonal skills. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a strong
work ethic and punctuality. I am a good team player who can also work well on my own
initiative when required, as well as being an eager individual who can adapt and develop new
skills.

My career to date has been notable in regards to my ability to successfully develop individuals
within my team, as well as my capability to take previously poor-performing outlets and turn
them around to become top 5 ranking award-winning profit centres.

Since starting work I have developed a considerable skill set which I believe is highly
transferable, and would relish the opportunity to use those skills and my unbridled
enthusiasm in a fresh environment.

Hobbies & Interests

I am a keen cyclist and regularly participate in cyclocross races. I am also the designer and
webmaster of a fans website - teamskyfans.com - which regularly receives several thousand visitors
each month. In addition to this, I also enjoy design and promotion. I have put on many music events
in the South West of England ranging from pub gigs to concerts at major venues, and a once yearly
event involving as many as 10 different artists. I have also worked with a number of artists
developing their promotional posters and designing their CD covers. I was also responsible for all the
design and layout for a Exeter based Arts Magazine.

I am also a keen animal lover with five cats and a wild rescued hedgehog which I am nurturing back to
full health prior to release back into the wild, and am currently in the process of being accepted as a
registered carer by the British Hedgehog Protection Society.

Health
In January 2009 I was diagnosed with anxiety after suffering what later turned out to be a stress
induced panic attack, and I continued to struggle with anxiety and panic attacks for the following 18
months. Whilst I rarely now get panic attacks I do suffer from minor anxiety disorder. This however,
in many ways has been an eye-opening positive for me, as I have learnt now, what level of
determination to expect from myself, but also others. It has also taught me the importance of being
open and honest about a wide variety of issues, not least mental health issues. Prior to this illness my
sickness record had been exemplary having taken just 4 days off work sick in the prior fifteen years.
Employment History

February 2010 to July 2010

PDSA Shop, Sidwell Street, Exeter - Volunteer
I volunteered at the local PDSA shop in Devon for around 6 months. Basic duties included sorting
donations, pricing, and maintaining the cleanliness of the backroom areas and the shopfloor. When I
started with the PDSA my anxiety levels were high, but they were wonderfully supportive, encouraging
me gradually, until my confidence was restored. I left in July 2010 following a move to the North East.

Thresher Group - Off Licence Manager at various Branches.
I worked for Threshers for ten years, eight of them as a branch manager at a number of branches

including staffing, financial control, ordering, merchandising, and training. I reported directly to the
District Manager for whom I would regularly be given additional tasks. I also provided point of sale
materials to other branches, and was frequently posted to branches other than my own to merchandise
them, or train the manager in areas of weakness. Throughout my time with Threshers all of my branches
were consistently Gold Standard for performance and presentation.

Mid 2006 - Dec 2009 - Thresher Wine Shop - Sidmouth

I took over this busy town centre branch in the summer of 2006 after the previous manager was moved
to a less demanding branch. Notable achievements include: Three letters of congratulation from the
Managing Director for sales performance, and ranked in the top 5 shops in the country for Whisky sales.
Mid 2004 - Mid 2006 - Thresher Wine Shop - Exmouth
I took over the branch following a period of poor performance by the previous manager. Notable
achievements include: The training of the experienced sales assistant in the branch to Assistant Manager
level, and on my departure she went on to become a highly successful manager in her own right.
Feb 2004 - July 2004 - Thresher Wine Shop - Llandaff, Cardiff
Took over the branch after a period with no manager. Notable Achievements: Took stock loss
in the branch from 5% of sales, to less than 1%. Branch moved from bottom of the district for
sales performance to 2nd within one month. Moved from bottom of the district to top of the
district from “Own Label” sales within 3 weeks.

McDonalds Restaurants Limited - Manager
Employed at Falmouth, Cornwall, and latterly Exeter, Devon. Originally employed as a crew
member in a newly opening branch in Cornwall. Was the first member of the branch to be
promoted to Training Squad, then Floor Manager and finally Shift Running Manager a position I
held for my last three years with the company. In my first 3 months at McDonalds I was
awarded crew person of the quarter for the South West Region.

Prior employment
I started my employment history at the age of nine, working market stalls and fairgrounds in East London,
whilst also doing paper rounds. By the age of 15 I was working in a Cafe and was throughout the summers
working on my own at the Beach Cafe on Castle Beach, Falmouth. On leaving school I worked briefly at a
bookbinding company before joining Western National Bus Company on the YTS. Working in the revenue
department and also spending time in the sales, and purchase ledger departments. This employment was
made permanent but I was made redundant in 1992. In 1993 I joined a Double Glazing company initially
on Employment Training and then in a full time role, and was responsible for creating and maintaining
their accounts system. Before leaving in 1994.
