n The Weidman Lions Club is sponsoring its First Golf Outing to help combat vision and hearing problems in the community. The four-person scramble will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 22 The Pines Golf Course, located at 1022 Clubhouse Dr., just west of Coldwater Road in the Village of Lake Isabella. The 18-hole outing includes Power Cart, continental breakfast at 8 a.m., lunch and prizes. Sign up at the Pro Shop at 1022 Clubhouse Drive or call Dennis at (989) 644-8258. n Lenny Massey and The Old Time Gospel Singers will be performing at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 15 at Coomer United Methodist Church. Following at 8 p.m., will be an ice cream social with homemade pies and build-your-own sundaes. The church is located at 5410 S. Vandecar Rd. This is six miles west of Mount Pleasant on M-20 to S. Vandecar, then 2 1/4 miles south to the little stone church on the hill. Free-will offering to benefit missions. For information call (989) 8662545 or (989) 561-5250. n Third Annual Stick Bow Shoot from dawn til dusk is at the Barryton Conservation Club, 3444 W. 18 Mile Road, Barryton. There is a 28-target, 3D course; longbows and recurves only; and a supervised Kids Course. There will be primitive camping, a bonfire and Friday Night Deer Camp. A hog roast will start at 1 p.m. Cost is $10 per day, $20 for three days or $30 per family. Mecosta Area Committee (MAC) is pleased to announce that we will be having Operation Homefront coming with military vehicle(s) to do a Food Drive for our Military members that are deployed. They will be located in the Parking lot of Mecosta Elementary School from 10-4. We would like all to come and fill these vehicles with food, paper products, baby food, diapers, laundry supplies etc; or make a donation. Operation Homefront provides emergency and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors. 75 percent of families served are the enlisted with an E1-E6 status who are deployed. Another program will be a free T.U.F.F. kids Camp. This is a program that teaches fitness and nutrition. This is geared for Youth K-8. You must register for this and registration forms are available at the Morton Township Library or Hope United Methodist Church. This camp will be held from 10-noon at the Mecosta Youth and Family Center. Get your registrations in now as space is limited. The day is filled with events from 10-4 with Car Show, Craft Show, games, drawings, plenty of food, pony ride and more. Registration forms for the Car and Craft Show are available by calling Sharon at 231-972-2945 or Diane, 231972-8800 or on FB by going to Mecosta area commitee. Registrations will be taken up to time of show. n Dances are being held from 7 to 11 p.m. the third Saturday of each month at the Mecosta VFW. The dances are open to the public and cost $5 admission. The bargains to be found in todays buyers market are inspiring a new interest in getting the best home mortgage. Although people often live with their mortgage decision for 30 years, research shows that Americans spend more time considering a car purchase than evaluating a home mortgage. Taking time to prepare, and asking the right questions of your lender, can help you make a financially prudent decision. Here are some questions to consider: n How much can I afford? By entering income, debt and down payment information, home affordability calculators can help estimate how much home you can afford and what your monthly payments need to be. A minimum down payment of 3 to 5 percent is generally required. If you put less than 20 percent down, government or private mortgage insurance may be needed. Private mortgage insurance can help you own a home sooner, and can generally be canceled when you reach 20 percent equity. n What is the interest rate and is it fixed? Shop around among several lenders to ensure the best rate. Be clear about whether the rate is fixed or adjustable. A reader recently asked about Hair. Socially hair is a very important thing. Every day I hear complaints about hair. Too much. Too much in the wrong places. Too little in the right places. Too curly. Too Straight. The wrong color. And on and on. In the animal world hair and feathers are used to attract mates and partners. It is not so different with us human animals. Healthy hair requires certain conditions. Hair is extruded up from the hair follicle. In the follicle all the ingredients to make the hair shaft are assembled, much like the process of tooth paste being extruded out through the top of the tube. If the correct ingredients are not brought to the hair follicle by the blood vessels, normal hair cannot be produced. So, good blood ow is needed. Protein, amino acids, fats, oils, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins are all needed to create this amazing lament, hair. The little factories that make the bers of hair are affected by hormones. Thyroid, testosterone, progesterone, estrogen and many more hormones are like a labor force that may call a strike. They are affected by stress. Stress management is a must for balanced hormones. Nutrients, amino acids, healthy oils, and sugars are needed. Hair has to have oils like olive oil and ax seed oil, as well as ber and complex carbohydrates from vegetables. Chondritin, Glucosamine, and MSM (which we get from animal cartilage and gelatin) are essential for healthy hair, skin, and nails. Silica, silver, tin, other trace minerals, Vitamins E and D3 are a must. Chia seed gel is highly benecial. Your hair is a good barometer of the health of the rest of your body.
