Ideas about safeguarding the soldier used to be predominantly defensive. Today, the ability to offensively respond to threats faster than the enemy is crucial to the concept of protection. The human brain, eyes and ears are highly evolved to sense and react instantaneously. Yet with the advent of new technologies to enhance these senses and increase awareness, todays soldier has been burdened by an excessive amount of equipment to carry on the head. Traditional military helmets were never intended for this purpose and therefore provide a solution that is uncomfortable, unstable and often compromises the very senses it is trying to protect.
Helmets, gas masks, goggles, visors, mandibles, communication headsets, illuminators and identification devices are all made by different companies that focus on the performance of their own product. Until now, the soldier was left to figure out how to make them all work together. A synergetic system can only result from the careful consideration of all the devices and cooperation between the various headborne equipment manufacturers.
Ops-Core offers multiple helmet solutions, upgrade components and accessories to create a platform with the sole purpose of achieving this goal. By respecting the anatomy of the elite warrior and the complexity of the equipment, we have built a foundation for all the elements to work in harmony and yield a solution far greater than the sum of its parts.

FIT
Ops-Cores hybrid suspension/liner design features an adjustable circumferential fitband with repositionable impact pads. The fitband allows the user to precisely adjust the liner shape and size for a customized fit and optimal comfort. Not only can the length, width, and overall shape be personalized by simply turning the knob dial, the helmet depth can also be set by adjusting the vertical position of the whole system. This provides a perfect and secure fit that is able to support the weight and moment forces of a helmet in demanding military operations. The liner system is also compatible with a variety of communication headsets and hearing protection devices, including headband style COMMs. The headband slides under the fitband to rest in between the helmets two top impact pads eliminating pressure points and interference that is a common problem with traditional liner systems. The impact pads are also pre-molded to the shape of the head and are not affected by temperature, altitude or moisture.

STABILITY MATTERS : CHINSTRAP COMPARISON
MATERIAL DESIGN
Closed cell memory comfort foam
The patented Head-Loc Retention system design has a unique strap geometry that creates straight force lines to evenly distribute helmet loads to the head. This eliminates pre-existing slack in the system that causes instability and slipping problems inherent to all other conventional chinstraps. Head-Loc tabs do away with loose strap ends and provide quick and easy one-handed adjustment. This also keeps the design low profile, lightweight, and snag free. During use, these innovative features offer a retention solution that is secure, comfortable and adaptable to a variety of mission scenarios and environmental conditions. When wearing night vision goggles or conducting rigorous physical activates, the helmet can be stabilized without use of counterweights or other cumbersome devices. This facilitates a high performance head-borne platform that stays put and does not flop around in ways that could be detrimental to the task at hand.
Helmets are worn for extensive periods of time under extreme environmental conditions. Therefore, materials selected for helmet components must be able to withstand significant amounts of wear and tear while also providing the user consistent protection, comfort and support. These requirements can be contradictory and difficult to achieve and often require innovative solutions and unique combinations of materials and parts. A good example of this is the helmet liner impact pad. Theoretically, the most comfortable pad would be very soft so as to conform to different shape heads and cover as much surface area as possible to reduce pressure points. But if this is accomplished, it will create unwanted heat due to insulating effects, added weight due to increased surface area, and moisture absorption in the open cell foam. The soft foam would also not be good at mitigating impact energy caused by low speed impacts or shell backface deformation from projectiles. Instead, Ops-Core uses different materials carefully designed and chosen to work in combination with one another to provide the desired performance benefits. The resulting components represent just a few of the many ways we are trying to improve the comfort, ventilation, protection, and stability of our 2011 products.

FAST High Cut models are available in both DSM Dyneema HB-26 and HB-80
ballistic core material options, which yield a shell weight reduction of more than 20% (HB-26) and 35% (HB-80) over traditional ACH aramid shells while providing the same level of ballistic performance
High Cut shell provides the same amount of head coverage / size as the MICH FAST Helmet fully loaded including VAS Shroud, ARCs, bungee lanyards,
exterior loop and liner with integrated chinstrap (as shown here) weighs less than the same size MICH 2002 without any add-ons and LDV closed-cell comfort foam is not affected by temperature, altitude, or moisture detaches to allow convenient donning and doffing of COMMs headsets with headbands standard issue ACH helmet suspension and retention products
Lightweight, multi-impact, ventilated liner with repositionable EPP impact pads Occ-Dial adjustable fitband with replaceable front, nape, and side pads quickly Integrated Head-Loc retention system gives the helmet 4x more stability than Comes standard with MARSOC / WARCOM night vision 3-hole mount pattern
Understanding Coverage
Traditional methods for determining the amount of protective coverage a helmet provides are based on calculating the exterior surface area of the helmet shell. However, it can be misleading when comparing different helmet shapes because in this scenario, larger helmet surface area does not necessarily mean larger head coverage area. For this reason, Ops-Core uses standardized computer modeling techniques to project a line-of-sight shadow from a helmet onto the largest head-form for a given helmet size. The surface area of this shadow is then measured to yield the true amount of the head that would actually be protected by this helmet as worn in real life.

H-Nape Chinstrap
The H-Nape is intended for operators conducting rigorous activities while wearing NVGs like the PVS-15 or ANViS-9 with heavier accessories mounted to the helmet. This added weight and subsequent CG problems can make the helmet (and NVGs) unstable and cause it to rotate or slip front to back during use. When NVGs are not stable they are difficult to see through and when they are difficult to see through, they are not effective. We have received reports of helmets being so unstable that they slipped and hit users in the face, hard enough to cause disorientation which can be detrimental when trying to operate a vehicle or control a canopy.
X-Nape Chinstrap
The X-Nape is intended for users conducting rigorous activities while wearing lighter NVGs like the PVS-14 or having smaller accessory equipment mounted to the helmet. Without the added weight of heavier devices, the X-Nape provides the same security and comfort as the H-Nape and does not require a fifth adjustment point on the back. Unlike competitor designs that require removal of the mounting screws to set the height of the nape pad, the X-Nape version self-adjusts to the back of the skull resulting in an ultra-clean, low-profile system.
