Finding the default Gateway:

Goto Start>Run> Enter the command cmd in the run window and click the OK button to enter into the command prompt. In the command prompt type ipconfig /all to find the default gateway as shown below.

Ping the default gateway using the following command: For example: if the IP address of the default gateway is 192.168.100.1 then use the command ping 192.168.100.1

If the gateway receives all the packets of data that is sent then there is no problem with the internet conncetion.

Assigning Static IP to a computer


Goto Start>Control Panel

In control Panel find and open NETWORK CONNCTIONS

Under Network And Internet Connections Option find Network Connections Option Here find the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION option

Right Click on Local area connection and select the PROPERTIES option In properties under the GENERAL tab select the Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) option and click on the properties button.

Under the properties Of Internet protocol select the second radio button named Use The Following IP address

Use The IP addresses Starting from 192.168.0.214 Use Subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 Use Default Gateway as found from the command prompt using ipconfig /all Use Default gateway address as Preferred DNS Server
