Configuring VLAN on Cisco Catalyst 3750 V2 Series Switch

Step 1: Connect the console cable from the switch console port to the PC USB
port. Refer to the diagram below.

Step 2: Connect all the devices using straight-through Ethernet cable. Refer to the
diagram below.
Step 3: Turn on the Cisco Catalyst 3750 v2 series switch.

Step 4: On the PC (where the PuTTY software is installed), open Device Manager
and click Ports (COM & LPT) to look for the correct port number where your
console cable is plug-in.
Step 5: Open PuTTY, click the radio button of the serial under the connection
type, and then change the serial line to COM3 (if it is in the COM3 port). After
that, click open.
Step 6: After you click the open button, it will activate the Command Line
Interface (CLI). It will display a message "Would you like to enter the initial dialog?
[yes/no]:" and say no by typing “n”. And press Enter, and the Switch> prompt will
appear, which is called user exec mode (user mode).

Step 7: Display the switch current configuration.


Step 8: Manually assign IP address for each computer.

 Go to Control Panel and Click Network and Internet

 Click Network and Sharing Center

 Click Change Adapter Settings


 Right click the Local Area Connection and click Properties

 Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click Properties

 Click “Use the following IP address” and manually input the IP address,
Subnet mask, Default gateway, and DNS server.
Step 9: Display each computer's basic TCP/IP Network Information (IP, subnet
mask, gateway) using a command prompt (CMD).

Step 10: Ping all computers to check if all other devices are reachable using the
command prompt.
Step 11: Group the computers into two groups.
Step 12: Create two VLANs on the switch.

Step 13: Assign switch ports to the VLANs.


Step 14: Display the switch new configuration.
Step 14: Ping the computers of the other group to see if it is still reachable.
