IMO PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR INTEGRATED BRIDGE SYSTEMS (IBS) (FOR MMD PHASE- II EXAMINATION PURPOSES) An int egr at ed br idge syst em ( I BS) is defined as a combinat ion of syst ems which ar e int er connect ed in order t o allow cent ralized access t o sensor infor mat ion or command/ cont r ol fr om wor kst at ions, wit h t he aim of incr easing safe and efficient ships management by suit ably qualif ied per sonnel. I BS should comply wit h t he following per for mance st andar ds: 1. The I BS should comply wit h all applicable I MO r equir ement s and r ecommendat ions. Par t s execut ing mult iple oper at ions should meet t he r equir ement s specified for each individual funct ion t hey cont r ol, monit or or per form. 2. Each "par t " of an I BS should meet t he r elevant r equir ement s and t he associat ed t echnical t est ing st andar ds. I n t he cont ext of I BS "par t " means an individual module, equipment or subsyst em. 3. Each par t t o be int egr at ed should provide det ails of it s oper at ional st at us and t he lat ency and validit y of essent ial infor mat ion. Means should be pr ovided wit hin t he I BS t o make use of t his infor mat ion. 4. A failur e of one par t should not affect t he funct ionalit y of ot her par t s except for t hose funct ions dir ect ly dependent upon t he infor mat ion fr om t he defect ive par t . 5. The funct ionalit y of t he I BS should ensur e t hat it s oper at ion is at least as effect ive as for st and- alone equipment . 6. Cont inuously displayed infor mat ion should be r educed t o t he minimum necessar y for safe operat ion of t he ship. Supplement ar y infor mat ion should be r eadily accessible. 7. The sour ce of infor mat ion ( sensor , r esult of calculat ion or manual input ) should be displayed cont inuously or upon r equest . 8. Wher e mult ifunct ion displays and cont rols ar e used t o per for m funct ions necessar y for safe oper at ion of t he ship t hey should be duplicat ed and int er changeable. 9. I t should be possible t o display t he complet e syst em configur at ion, t he available configur at ion and t he configur at ion in use. 10. An alt er nat ive means of oper at ion should be pr ovided for essent ial funct ions. 11. An alt er nat ive sour ce of essent ial infor mat ion should be pr ovided. For act ions which may cause unint ended r esult s, t he I BS should r equest confir mat ion fr om t he oper at or . 14. The number of alar m t ypes and t heir r elease should be kept as low as possible by pr oviding indicat ions for infor mat ion of lower impor t ance. Alar ms should be displayed so t hat t he alar m r eason and t he r esult ing funct ional r est r ict ions can be easily under st ood. I ndicat ions should be self- explanat or y. 15. The I BS should, upon t ur n- on, come t o an init ial default st at e, aft er it was shut down as per t he procedur es. 16. Aft er a power int er r upt ion full funct ionalit y of t he I BS should be available aft er r ecover y 000 of all subsyst ems. The I BS should not incr ease t he r ecover y t ime of individual subsyst em funct ions aft er power r est or at ion. 17. I f subj ect ed t o a power int er r upt ion t he I BS should, upon r est orat ion of power , maint ain t he conf igur at ion in use and cont inue aut omat ed oper at ion, as far as pract icable. Safet y r elat ed aut omat ic funct ions should only be r est or ed upon confir mat ion by t he oper at or . 18. The I BS should be supplied: i. fr om t he main and emergency sour ces of elect r ical power wit h aut omat ed changeover t hrough a local dist r ibut ion boar d wit h pr ovision t o pr eclude inadver t ent shut - down; ii. fr om a t r ansit ional sour ce of elect r ical power for a durat ion of not less t han 1 min; and iii. wher e r equir ed, par t s of t he I BS should also be supplied fr om a r eser ve sour ce of elect r ical power .
