public services, digital entrepreneurs and students, to develop innovative ways of using technology to improve communities. Weve had over 10,000 views and over 60 ideas submitted on how people can use technology to help people help each other or make it easier to report local issues. You can see these at http://bit.ly/submityouridea which is the first ever local challenge on the governments competition platform. The Developing Solutions Event on 25 November will enable web & software developers and designers to develop or design prototypes that meet one of two challenges OS Open Data or Open 311, which are detailed below. For more information, please see http://developingsolutions.eventbrite.com. The prototypes of these challenges will be showcased at the end of the day and reviewed by judges. You will be asked in the afternoon to advise the judges on the prototypes based on what youve seen throughout the day and how the prototypes would work in a public service or community environment. Were not expecting more than 10 prototypes so you shouldnt need to be too overwhelmed! The winners of each challenge will win 100 each. What are the Challenges? There are two challenges people can submit a prototype to. Open Data Challenge If people want to enter the Open Data Option, they will have to fulfil the general criteria for designing or developing prototypes (see "What's the criteria to win?") but there is additional criteria too - the prototype will need to make use of OS Open Data. What do you mean by "prototypes that make use of OS Open Data"? You can see examples of prototypes making use of OS Open Data here. Examples of prototypes that have made use of this data include Fix My Transport, Cycle Streets and Mission Explore. As you can see, many of these prototypes use OS Open Data and they use other open data too. Here is a list of other open data that they could use and Open Kent or its API (although not mandatory). Open311 Challenge If people want to enter the Open311 Option, they will have to fulfil the general criteria for designing or developing prototypes (see "What's the criteria to win?") as well as make use of Open 311. You can see examples of prototypes making use of Open311 here. Examples of prototypes that have made use of this include San Francisco and Baltimore. You can see more on Open311 here. To use Open311 click on the View the GeoReport v2 API Specification link) and if people do want to the API Key to test their prototype, they can contact us. Otherwise, we'd recommend this mailing list if you have any general questions about this standard. You can also use a web service to take requests for a common authority services, redirect them to the correct authority and create a case in the councils CRM or pass the information to the appropriate section within the authority. Please see more information here and for any queries do

contactmark.hudson@swale.gov.uk. You may be wondering what we mean by prototypes. Here is a brief explanation although do contact us and we'll try and answer any further clarification before the event! What's the criteria to win? In order to be considered, each submission must include a weblink to the prototype (whether that's a visual, mock web/smart phone app page or code) and a description of how it will meet the criteria. The more evidence people provide to show how good their prototype is and how much potential it has, the more chances they have of getting others to want to help them develop it on the day and of course winning the competition. We recommend people get others to help develop the prototype before the event, so that they have a better chance of winning!
