Governor Roemer Statement on Seacoast Forum

Manchester, NH Governor Buddy Roemer hasnt been in the big media debates, but hes getting a renewed chance at presenting his message to voters in the Granite State. Seacoast Media Group, a corporation that owns several newspapers in New Hampshire and Maine, including the Portsmouth Herald and Seacoast Online, has decided to give the underdog Presidential Candidate a chance. A forum for Governor Roemer will be held on Thursday, December 8 at 1pm in the SMG Cafeteria, which seats about 150. Howard Altschiller, Executive Editor at Seacoast Media Group, said in a recent editorial that SMG wanted to provide the forum because, "The true spirit of the New Hampshire presidential primary is that, in theory, candidates with less funding should still get a fair hearing from voters. In an editorial, Seacoast Online says that Roemers message of eliminating corruption in politics is important, but also that his message is dangerous to the interests benefitting from institutionalized corruption, so they're not going to help him reach an audience." Roemer is able to articulate what so many of us feel in our gut that somehow the entire political process has been corrupted by special interest money and that the average working men and women are being played for suckers. After listening to Roemer, you understand why the congressional 'Supercommittee' failed. Congress is doing the work of narrow special interests rather than the public, and those special interests are not willing to compromise for the good of the nation. Roemers NH State Director, Dover attorney Chris Buck, confirmed that there has been a significant divergence in this election between how television and print media treat the New Hampshire Primary. Its a television age, said Buck, and I think the big TV networks have decided exactly how many candidates they should have on the stage to sell the most advertising. Print media, in contrast, has been very responsible. They still seem to take their journalistic responsibility seriously. Were encouraged that newspapers like the Portsmouth Herald and Seacoast Online are making the case for why a four-term Congressman and one of the best Governors of Louisiana deserves to be heard. The Forum for Governor Roemer will be held at Seacoast Media Group, 111 New Hampshire Ave., Portsmouth, NH at 1pm on December 8. All interested media and voters should RSVP to Seacoast Media Groups Executive Editor, Howard Altschiller at haltcshiller@seacoastonline.com.
