Cussons Technology founded in 1872 in Manchester, England is an organisation with a proven record of design and manufacture of equipment used in Research, Development and Education. Today, the company offers a wide range of products and services to an international customer base. The Cussons Technology Marine Hydrodynamic Research Systems Division was founded following the acquisition of Kempf and Remmers. Kempf and Remmers commanded universal recognition for excellence in the design and manufacture of a wide range of specialised force measurement instrumentation and test facilities systems for the marine hydrodynamic research sector. These facilities are principally employed in the evaluation of hull designs, propulsion systems and sea-keeping characteristics of a wide range of surface and sub-surface vessels and other marine structures. Combining the skills and experience of Cussons Technology in design, manufacture, installation and operation of projects with the Kempf and Remmers business, created the world's most formidable force to serve the Marine Hydrodynamic research establishments. Cussons are able to provide clients with all of the requirements for Marine Hydrodynamic Research and Development from spare parts to facility upgrades; from instrumentation to complete turnkey facilities.
This Specialised division based within the UK's key hydrodynamic research facility at QinetiQ Haslar, Portsmouth. Our offices are located within Froudes original Haslar tank on the site that is now part of the Haslar Marine Technology Park. At this location Cussons have access to the most up to date Marine Hydrodynamic Research facility and have access to the research teams who are continually evolving new techniques, product ideas and moving the subject area forward, all of which is of benefit to Cussons' clients. The team at Haslar and Manchester work closely with former employees of Kempf and Remmers who are employed as consultants to work with our design and product development teams. Over the years Cussons have established close relationships with many leading hydrodynamic facilities around the world allowing us to work closely with Senior Personnel to develop our range of products to suit the needs of specific research for the shipbuilding industry. This cooperation also extends to major project work where required, ensuring that any new facilities are provided with the latest state of the art technology, thus enabling the industry to move forward.
The Marine Hydrodynamics Division supports its clients across the spectrum of requirement.

specifically to meet our customers' unique experimental objectives. Cussons Technology wave makers incorporate proven software techniques for wave generator control and can include software links to towing carriages to optimise test duration. Wave Technology is a rapidly advancing science - new or modified products are continually being developed to meet unique experimental needs, including those associated with the offshore industry's deep-sea exploration research programmes.
WAKE MEASUREMENT
Cussons has a range of wake measuring instrumentation designed to suit our customers requirements for standard Pitot tube type with manometer to advance 5-hole Pitot-tube systems with pressure transducers.
WAVE MEASUREMENT
As well as wave generation we also have a range of wave probes and instrumentation designed for measuring waves either mounted in fixed position with in Ocean Basin or wave tanks or specifically design hydrofoil section composite probes designed to be mounted on high speed towing tanks or from Ocean basin carriages, with limited wake and deflection that can be present with standard probes.
WAVE GENERATORS
Wave Makers are available in a wide number of sizes and types incorporating normal or absorbing features, capable of producing regular or random long or short crested waves in deep or shallow water. To support this extensive range of requirements, our wave maker designs include piston, plunger, hinged flap and sliding wedge types, or can be developed

PROPELLER DYNAMOMETERS
Propeller Dynamometers are based on original Kempf & Remmers designs and have a reputation for reliability and accuracy. Using modern rotating and non-rotating transducer technology incorporating compensation for both zero drift and sensitivity to measure torque and thrust, these instruments are the workhorses of modern hydrodynamic laboratories. Many hundreds are currently in use worldwide. Our single and contra-rotating Propeller Dynamometers can be supplied in a number of different configurations, which include integral motors and angled drives. They are suitable therefore for use within model ships (unsealed designs) and on Towing Carriages and pressurised Cavitation Tunnels (waterproof designs). Our Propeller Dynamometer range is designed to permit experiments over a wide range of speeds, thrusts, and torques, although non-standard requirements can easily be accommodated.

MODEL PRODUCTION
Model production is a major aspect of the overall operation of hydrodynamics research facilities. Machine tools with proven designs have been available from Kempf and Remmers over many years. Today these are upgraded by Cussons Technology to suit current demands for computer control. Accurate and rapid production of hulls, propellers and other components required for test operations can be achieved using the wide range of production machines available. Our modern range of CNC Ship Model Milling Machines come in a wide range of sizes as well as configurations from Small 3 to 5m model version based on the traditional twin spindle 3-axis configuration to large version for models upto 14m with single or twin spindle 5-axis, that can be either supplied in rail gantry or bed and gantry configuration. To accompany these milling machines we also have a range of sterntube drilling devices based on traditional K&R designs.
