An organelle is a part of a cell that has at least one specific function

Cytoplasm- the liquid and organelles from the cell membrane to the nucleus

Cytosol- ONLY the liquid from the cell membrane to the nucleus

Remember the cell wall is only found in plant cells and it gives structure in a plant cell!

The plasma membrane controls what goes in and out of the cell and it is selectively permeable!

Eukaryotic Cell- has a nucleus, plasma membrane, and cytoplasm. It is more complex than a prokaryotic cell.

Prokaryotic Cell- lacks a true nucleus and organelles.

The nucleus stores genetic information and controls cell activities!

The Chromatin is in the nucleus and it consists on DNA and protein.

Nucleolus- darkened region inside the nucleus makes ribosomes

Nuclear Envelope with Nuclear Pores- double membrane enclosing the nucleus that has pores for RNA to leave the nucleus

Ribosomes are involved in protein synthesis which is the making of proteins!

The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) has ribosomes and transports them to other parts of the cell

The Smooth ER lacks ribosomes and is involved in making lipids. Golgi Apparatus- packages and delivers products for secretion or storage

Lysosomes are involved in digestion and are only in animals!

Vacuoles store food in a cell

The Central Vacuole stores food, but is only in plant cells!

Chloroplasts are only in plant cells and they make sugar through photosynthesis

The Mighty Mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell and make energy through ATP

Cytoskeleton- made of microfilaments and microtubules and are for supports and movement in a cell

Centrioles are important in cell division, but are only in ANIMAL cells!

Cilia and Flagella are outside of only animal cells and are involved in cell locomotion

Chromosomes carry the hereditary information of a cell and are made of chromatin!
