Why I chose .
I chose Santo Domingo for my Geography project because I thought I should research about something different. To try something new and challenge myself for this project. My Dad actually lived in Dominican Republic for 5 years, but he lived in Puerto Plata. Which is far, far away from Santo Domingo.

Location
Santo Domingo is located in Dominican Republic, it is also the capital of Dominican republic too. The location in coordinates is 18degrees, 30 0 N and 69 degrees, 59 0 W. Here are some images of Santo Domingo.

Climate
The weather is usually humid with oppressive heat. Santo Domingo is recorded as a tropical climate place. The months of December and January are the coolest months and July to August are the warmest months. Santo Domingo also falls under the Tropical monsoon climate, which means that the city is susceptible to hurricanes.

Customs, Traditions and Celebrations.


One of the celebrations the of the Dominicans is Carnival. The carnival is about celebrating the upside-down world . Since basically the country Dominican Republic is Christian, for that day everything is opposite. So instead of for Christ, they follow the devil, just for that one day. So for example, instead of women being women s, they act like men and the men who should act like men, are women.

Food and Drink


The Dominican s national dish is La bandera. The dish has white rice, red beans, stewed meat, fried plantain and sometimes salad. There is another dish called sancocho, which is a meat, plantain and vegetable stew. Since the Caribbean sea is near Dominican Republic, its easy to get fish and conch, fish is also well enjoyed there. Also coconut milk is usually used to make sea food sweater.

The flag of Dominican Republic first divides each square with a white cross. The emblem in the middle, shows a bible in the center. With a gold cross and six draped Dominican flags.. On the sides of the emblem, their are branches of palm and oil. The bottom of those braches is a ribbon that says, Dios, Patria, Liberted . Meaning God, country, freedom. The blue on the flag stands for freedom and independence, the red on the flag stands for fire and blood for independent struggle. Last but not least, the white cross in the middle dividing the flag means, God has not forgotten his people.

The population of Santo Domingo is 3,712,391. Santo Domingo is actually the capital city of Dominican Republic. The city was actually found in 1496. The area of Santo Domingo is 104.44km squared. Another interesting fact about Santo Domingo is that, you can get natural and real amber. The mayor of Santo Domingo is Roberto Salcedo.

History and Famous people.


Aimee Carrero is an actress from Santo Domingo. She was born on July 15, 1988. She acted in the famous movie, Alvin and the chipmunks, The squeakuel (2009). Another famous actress from Santo Domingo is Dania Ramirez. She was stared in a movie called Xmen 3: The last stand. She was born on November 8, 1979.

Human-environmental interactions.
People rely on the enviroment by living in up hill valleys etc. They live in certain places to make money and usually provide for there families. These plants that they are harvesting are needs for them because that s basically there job and what they do.

Dominican Republic import s sugar, coffee and Tobacco. The Dominican s export to USA 52% and to Haiti 13.6%.

Language.
The culture and people of the Dominican Republic, like its Spanish Caribbean people, its a blend of the cultures of the Spanish colonists, African slaves, and Tano natives. European, African and Tano cultural elements are most important in food, family, religion and music.

Religions
The Religion in Dominican Republic are mainly Christian. 95% of the country is Christian and the other 5% is other religions.

Vegetation.
The vegetation is mainly highlands and fertile valleys.
