Food!!!
I dont know if you know this but smell and looks are everything if you
walk up to someone and they smell awful and look terrible you would not
wanna stick around them right? same thing goes with food if you are
going to a restaurant and it smells all beguiled then you won't want
anything in their but if you smell Arroz Con Pollo and a fresh empanada
with a spicy tamale on the side trust me you're walking out their 20lbs
heavier than before you walked in(Lolz).
Some traditional spanish foods are:
-Besitos de Coco
-Arroz Con Pollo
-Mofongo Relleno de Camarones
-Sofrito
One recipe!!!
Sofrito
1 large yellow onion
1 pimiento (Cubanelle) or substitute with green bell pepper
1 red bell pepper or 1sm jar roasted red peppers
1 medium head of garlic (2 tbsp. minced garlic)
1 bunch of cilantro
12 ajes dulces (hard to find and may skip)
6 leaves of recao - (Eryngium) (hard to find/skip)
cup Spanish olives, pitted
1 tbsp capers
2 tsps salt
1 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp crushed organo
cup olive oil
Wash, peel, seed and coarsely chop everything. Put in a blender and pure. Store in a glass jar covered in the
refrigerator for later use. Freeze it in ice-cube trays and dump the frozen cubes in a freezer bag. This will be
fried in achiote oil or tocino as the first step in recipes. This recipe makes about 2 large ice-cube trays. Use
about 3 cubes for rice or soup that will serve a family.
Once you've made this easy recipe you will never go back to store bough sofrito. The aroma is simply
intoxicating. . . .
Holidays!!!
well some important holidays in puerto rico could be
-march 22nd,Da de la Abolicin de la Esclavitud (Emancipation Day)
> this is basically it is when slavery was abolished in 1873, while the island was still a colony of spain.
-dia de reyes(the three kings)
> this holiday is a religious holiday in which was formed because of the three wise men that went to see
the newborn christ by exchanging gifts. on this holiday one would put boxes of hay under their bed for each
wisemans camel this would then be exchanged for gifts.
-constitution de puerto rico
>Formerly called Occupation Day, commemorating the anniversary of the landing of American troops at
Gunica in 1898.
Schools
well in puerto rico there are some similarities and some major differences like in
puerto rico they go to school for four hours then they go home for dinner and
church, maybe take a nap then in the afternoon they go back to finish off their
school day. The schools are very hard on how the students act and what they
wear within the school(most of them). they really press christianity within their
curriculum (unlike in america).
My Opinion
well to me this country is very artic because of their food
constant parties yet ability to buckle down the next morning
and get back to work. so that got to be polar and i also like
how you can really learn a lot from not just the people there
but the natural aspects and the common way of the people
its just really, icy!!!
