First of all, let us praise Allah the Almighty, for His blessing we can gather in this place. In this good opportunity, I would like to say a big thank you to my teachers who has given me the opportunity to deliver a speech in English in front of you all. Brothers and Sisters On this occasion, I would like to deliver an English speech under the title: Kartini Day and Womens Emancipation. We all know every year, on 21st April (on the twenty first of April), Indonesian people always celebrate Kartini Day. This celebration is to appreciate the contribution of R.A. Kartini in improving the life of Indonesian women. Kartini Day also reminds us that Indonesian women should get equality in education, achievement and social life. Kartini has inspired us in supporting the wowens emancipation. Brothers and Sisters In the past, Indonesian women had a very low social status. They could not attend school to get education. Indonesian women were not able to reach good position in social life. They did not have the same rights as men obtained. This condition made R.A. Kartini concerned. She tried to change it. She wanted Indonesian women to have higher education and better social status. Kartini expressed her ideas and opinion in letters and then sent them to her close friend, Rosa Abendanon. Kartinis letters were mainly about her views on the condition of native Indonesian women. Another way of Kartinis struggle was she established free school for women. She thought that to improve the womens life, they might have a higher education. My teachers My friends The letters from RA Kartini to Rosa Abendanon were compiled and published into a book entitled : Door Duisternis tot Licht or known as Out of Dark Comes Light. In Indonesian, we call it as Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang. Kartinis letters indicated that she struggled to change the low status of women. She inspired Indonesian women to get education and a better life. In other words, she supported womens emancipation. That is why, to appreciate Kartinis ideas for the womens movement, in 1964, President Sukarno declared Kartini's birth date, 21st April, as 'Kartini Day' - an Indonesian National Holiday which we celebrate it each year until now. Brothers and Sisters We always celebrate Kartini Day every year. The question is, what should we do in celebrating it? In my opinion, Kartini Day celebrates not only means we have to wear the traditional clothes. The most important thing is we are reminded of the struggle against discrimination towards women, by making use of existing opportunities to obtain the highest possible education. Kartini Day also means that we can not take for granted idea of equality of men and women. There are, however, the natural differences between women and men. Kartini's ideas should be an inspiration for women to get the same rights as men acquired status, education, and social achievements. Nowdays, we can find many successful women in our country. There are many Indonesian women who have amazing achievements in the field of business, economics, education, government officials, and other professions. We can also find Indonesian women who have become regency chiefs, governors, ministers, even president of Indonesia. It indicates that Indonesian women have reached better social status and they have participated in womens emancipation.

Perayaan ini untuk menghargai kontribusi RA Kartini dalam meningkatkan kehidupan perempuan Indonesia. Hari Kartini juga mengingatkan kita bahwa Perempuan Indonesia harus mendapatkan kesetaraan dalam kehidupan pendidikan, prestasi dan sosial. Kartini telah menginspirasi kami dalam mendukung emansipasi wowen itu. Saudara-saudara ... Di masa lalu, perempuan Indonesia memiliki status sosial yang sangat rendah. Mereka tidak bisa menghadiri sekolah untuk mendapatkan pendidikan. Perempuan Indonesia tidak dapat mencapai posisi yang baik di kehidupan sosial. Mereka tidak memiliki hak yang sama seperti laki-laki diperoleh. Kondisi ini membuat R.A. Kartini yang bersangkutan. Dia mencoba untuk mengubahnya. Dia ingin Perempuan Indonesia untuk memiliki pendidikan tinggi dan status sosial yang lebih baik. Kartini menyatakan ide-ide dan pendapat dalam huruf dan kemudian dikirim ke sahabatnya, Rosa Abendanon. Surat-surat Kartini yang terutama tentang pandangannya tentang kondisi asli Perempuan Indonesia. Cara lain perjuangan Kartini itu ia mendirikan sekolah gratis bagi perempuan. Dia berpikir bahwa untuk meningkatkan kehidupan perempuan, mereka mungkin memiliki lebih tinggi pendidikan. Bapak dan Ibu guru saya ... Teman-teman saya ... Surat-surat dari RA Kartini kepada Rosa Abendanon disusun dan diterbitkan menjadi sebuah buku berjudul: "Pintu Duisternis tot Licht" atau dikenal sebagai "Dari Gelap Datang Cahaya". Dalam Bahasa Indonesia, kita sebut sebagai Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang. Surat-surat Kartini menunjukkan bahwa dia berjuang untuk mengubah status rendah wanita. Dia terinspirasi perempuan Indonesia untuk mendapatkan pendidikan dan kehidupan yang lebih baik. Dengan kata lain, dia mendukung emansipasi perempuan. Ada banyak Perempuan Indonesia yang memiliki prestasi luar biasa dalam bidang bisnis, ekonomi, pendidikan, pejabat pemerintah, dan profesi lainnya. Kita juga dapat menemukan Perempuan Indonesia yang telah menjadi kepala kabupaten, gubernur, menteri, bahkan presiden Indonesia. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa perempuan Indonesia telah mencapai sosial yang lebih baik status dan mereka telah berpartisipasi dalam emansipasi perempuan. Bapak dan Ibu guru saya ... Saudara-saudara sekalian . Demikianlah pidato saya. Saya berharap ini akan berguna bagi kita, dan aku minta maaf jika ada kesalahan dalam pidato saya. Akhirnya, saya ingin mengatakan: "Selamat Hari Kartini ...! Hidup Indonesia, Hidup Perempuan Indonesia ...!
