ABSTRACT
Organizations look to enterprise resource planning (ERP) as a significant strategictool of competition. ERP plays an important role in today’s enterprise managementand is beginning to be the backbone of organizations. Although ERP has beenrecognized as a useful tool, in practice, there are many difficulties in compellingpeople to implement it effectively. In this case, how to help ERP’s future effectiveimplementation has already attracted some researchers’ attention. The core researchdeveloped is focused on critical success factors of ERP implementation.In this paper, six general accepted critical success factors (CSF) are identified basedon the relevant literature: top management support, effective projectmanagement, business process reengineering, the suitability of software andhardware, education and training, and user involvement. A survey of ERPimplementation in Finnish firms was conducted concerned with critical successfactors and other firm issues.Data analysis shows that CSF is vital to ERP implementation. CSF may keep theimplementation on schedule, within budget, satisfactory to the user, and so on.
