ROSTER & TEAMS New Roster for FebMay (Part 3) & new teams (Part 3 V 1). PATROL UNIFORMS Members to turn up ready for patrol at/before their start times in Full Uniform. To enable beach setup to commence immediately and finish on time. The correct Patrol Uniform including Patrol Cap, as well as sun safety (See the office if you do not have a wide brimmed hat). This is a requirement for a our patrolling agreement and for the Bulk/ Wilkes Shield. It is an easy 10pt per person on inspections, compared to 1pt for a incorrect answer. We have not received an inspection for October so there will most likely be a double up this month so please double check the beach/equipment setup, have 2 members with tubes on the waters edge, (plus a member in an elevated position/tower), log books up to date and do some revision to pass the time. - 4WD is to be only used for towing on and off the beach, and is to be kept off the beach as much as possible. Please select 2H wheel drive once you have left the beach, including turning around in the carpark, maintain enough tyre pressure so they are not punctured by the rims, and clean/wash the both ATV/4WD/ IRB inside/outside after every patrol (they are our most expensive equipment). Everyone driving the ATV/4WD must be 18+ with a non-Learners Licence & need to complete the new updated 4WD course (including those with the ATV Induction We require your drivers licence details for this course. You have been contacted if we dont have your details. (this may also a good time to check your Blue Card Status. This will also be compulsory for driving club vehicles after the 31 December, 2011. If there is anything else you need or wish to pass onto me, please feel free to email me. Thanks and see you on the beach. Regards Dean Johns Club Captain Kawana Waters SLSC Mobile: 0422 122 339

THE HEAT IS ON ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES.

Its time to roll up your sleeves and get your blood pumping for our club in this years Surf Club Challenge! The Red Cross Blood Service Surf Club Challenge is on to see which club on the Sunshine Coast can give the most blood and therefore save the most lives off the beach this season. There are two categories up for grabs - The Hayden Kenny Cup for most number of donations received from a club (previous winners Alexandra Headland & Maroochydore clubs) and the Life Savers Shield for the highest percentage of donations based on club membership numbers (previous winners Dicky Beach & Sunshine Beach clubs). These amazing donors provide blood for the one in three of us who will require blood or blood products during our lifetime. As the demand for blood increases, so does the need for donors. Every time you donate you can save up to three lives! The Surf Club Challenge will run from 16 January 2012 to the 16 March 2012

BRONZE MEDALLION COURSE: This course has commenced with 18 in the group. Training is on Sunday morning and Tuesday evening.

and you need to make a donation between these dates to make it count to our tally. You can donate at Nambour, Maroochydore or the mobile van which travels all over the coast including our local area by calling 13 14 95 or visiting donateblood.com.au to make an appointment.

Youth & Membership

January has been a busy month for the youth around the club. We have had a few doing their IRB crewies course with at least two of them keen to race this season. From my own experience joining a team tends to keep members around the club longer than those not involved. Nikita McDonald and Vanessa Louw have just returned from the State Junior Leadership Development Camp in Lennox Heads. The girls are brimming with enthusiasm be less. Excerpt from their report: By the end of the weekend all groups

had become proper teams, friendships had been formed and after a speech from the incredible Danny Hoyland, we were all inspired and extremely proud to be a part of Surf Life Saving Queensland. We have learnt new skills in leadership and we are both extremely excited and eager to put these skills to use. Our aim is to make all the youth of the club a team and expand it, get everyone as involved as possible and ask for your support. Once again thank-you so much! Yours, Nikita & Vanessa
