Dear «First_Name»,

The Sun Devil Waterski team needs your help! While we won the coveted Western Regional
Championships this past October and bested all eight West Coast Waterski teams last year, we are
facing unforeseen challenges like never before.

We have to move our training site!

We have been loyal members of Firebird Lake since the early 2000s; where we train, bond with our
teammates, and make lifelong memories. Unfortunately, we regret to announce that we are leaving
Firebird Lake after almost 20 years calling it our home. Due to new developments on the land
Firebird occupies, our lease renewal was abruptly denied, and the lake will be drained. Our executive
board banded together to not only find a new site, but coordinate moving our jump ramp, team
trailer, boat, gear, etc. to our new site. This effort is an example of our incredible student leadership.
We are sad to leave Firebird but look forward to our future at Spring Mountain Lake in Buckeye,
Arizona.

We need your help more than ever before.

This move was completely unforeseen, and we have been hit with many expenses that were not in
our budget for this year. Some of these include:
• Jump Ramp Transportation (contracted crane and oversize load semi-truck)
• New Increased Lake Fees
• Insurance Fee increases
• Legal fees (negotiation of our new lake lease)

These moving expenditures took essential funds away from our account to purchase the 2023 team
training boat which is needed to replace our current boat that has high hours. Securing this new
boat is vital to ensure that we stay on the water.
Because of generosity from family and friends last year, we were able to continue training,
upgrading, and competing at a premier level. We placed fourth at the National Collegiate Waterski
Association National Championships and broke into the top five for the first time in over a decade.
As the top non-scholarship school team, we were voted the NCWSA “Team of the Year” for the
second year in row!

With past generous funding, we were able to support our team in many ways. We reached our goal to
invest in a new boat shade to protect our team boat from the fierce Arizona sun. These gifts also
made it possible to sponsor team travel, ensuring that all members (no matter their ability to pay)
could attend Regionals in Arvin, California and Nationals in San Marcos, Texas. Last but not least,
these funds helped to maintain our boat and keep it running in top shape.

We brought our Sun Devil team spirit around the country, impressing judges, officials, and waterski
ambassadors with our outstanding camaraderie and love for the sport. We are a student-run club
without access to scholarship funds, but we’ve been able to compete at a prestigious level thanks to
the support from friends and family.

Calling on friends and family like you...

We are driven to rise to new levels with our competitive team and our mission to share our love of
waterskiing with our school and beyond. This year, we ask for your partnership in supporting the
above expenditures in any way possible. We remain steadfast in our commitment to our team
members, donors, and spreading our passion for this sport as far as we can. If we could count on your
support, we would be forever grateful.

Forks UP!
