INTRODUCTION this document forms the final part of the design realisation project. it covers the work completed since the city and landscape, professional studies and design and detail reports were completed at the end of april and as such should be read in conjunction with these three reports and the january portfolio. this report is intended as an overview of the final scheme, more detailed information is included in the reports mentioned above. the site is 64-68 whitechapel high street, which was one of the projects in the high street 2012 scheme. it is at the very start of the high street 2012 route in aldgate, adjacent to the city of london and new development on whitechapel high street. this project envisages a slightly different sequence of events during the high street 2012 project however [detailed overleaf] the existing buildings are the only surviving historical buildings on the south side of the high street between altab ali park and the city so are an important set of buildings for the character and history of the area. the buildings have however fallen into significant disrepair.

KEY VIEW - ALDGATE EAST UNDERGROUND STATION the aesthetic of the broken up facade is clear from this view that looks straight onto the facade. the old glazed shop fronts will allow clear views through into the market area and parts of the facade extend over and retreat from the pavement blurring the boundary between the building and the high street. the sections of facade recreated in concrete will sit like sculptures suspended in the air above the high street.
KEY VIEW - ALDGATE EAST UNDERGROUND STATION this oblique view of the facade will allow views into the translucent gym pods which extend over the high street. the movement of people within the gym will be visible as shadows moving over the facade. at night the pods will glow when in use softly lighting the immediate facade around them.

BROKEN DOWN FACADE precast concrete sections will form the high street facade. these elements will create a link to the buildings history by creating sculptural elements which hang above the street. the breaking down of the facade blurs the building boundaries creating an open, accessible building for public use and also visual connections between the high street and buidling interior.
FACADE CONSTRUCTION
THE PROJECTING SECTIONS OF THE FACADE WILL GLOW WHEN IN USE AT NIGHT, VISUALLY IDENTIFYING THE PARTS OF TH BUILDING THAT ARE IN USE AND CREATING ENERGY.
kalwall panels diffuse light, during the day allowing glare free daylighting in the interior and at night diffusing light to the exterior creating a glowing effect. shadows from inside the building are projected onto the facades of the panels. the material will be used for the pods creating a visual connection between the movement in the pods and the high stree.
a b
the pods will need to be hooked up to the services within the building. to do this sections of the cladding panels will be modified to create plugin panels. the panels will be fitted with standard attachments on both the internal and external face which can be attached to different services if required.

water
modified kalwall panel the pods will function as energy cells, combining to create a bateery pack that will power the building. electrical energy will be produced from the movement of people within the gym and the heat created during the work out process will be captured to heat other parts of the building.
gym pods
gym pods
in the gym pods the chemical energy stored in the fruit taken into the body will be converted into kinetic energy during exercise. the exercise equipement will then convert the kinetic energy into electrical energy through the use of dynamos. heat from the bodies of the gym users will also be extracted and passed through a heat recovery system to heat other parts of the building.
the circulation walkways will produced electrical energy when people walk over them through the use of piezo electric pressure pads. these pressure pads will also be linked to lighting sensors and illuminate the lights only when someone is passing through that area of circulation. the lights will track the movement of people through the building in a similar way to the pods glowing when they are in use.

the cinema structure is suspended above the ground floor market area. it hangs as a solid object differentiating itself from the spaces around it. it is designed as a black box to contrast with the surroundings - the cinema soaks up the energy created in the rest of the building.

A the rings of the cinema structure will be constructed individually and hung with the super-structure before being braced together to create the shell of the cinema. each ring will be suspended from three points from the structure above. the points of suspension will be on nodes where the bracing of the frame above meets vertical elements of the steel frame. each ring will be braced to the superstructure at a lower level to prevent it displacing under loads. 5 1 steel ring section of cinema structure 2 cross bracing of steel frame superstructure 3 bracing node of super-structure 4 cinema structure connected to super-structure at nodes 5 cinema structure braced to superstructure at low level
