July 2012 Dear Friends: Please accept my sincerest and warmest greetings as I welcome you all to the Inaugural East Regional Fatherhood and Healthy Families Summer Institute, hosted by Fathers and Families Coalition of America. I am truly delighted and honored to take part in this Conference. This Conference will bring together a diverse group of individuals who will take part in educational workshops, plenary sessions, and a national certification. The insights and experiences gained here over the course of the Institute will be truly valuable. Fathers and Families Coalition of America (FFCA) should be extremely proud of what they have accomplished since their founding in 1996; they have provided so many organizations who work with fathers and families with the services they need. FFCA is devoted to the professional development of fatherhood and family services. They offer unique networking forums, national conferences, professional development venues, advocacy, and collaboration development. As a father, a grandfather, and as a founding Board of Director for the Fathers and Families Coalition of America, I know the importance of the services that they provide and I encourage everyone to take full advantage of the activities and educational workshops that have been planned for the East Regional Fatherhood and Healthy Families Summer Institute. I offer my best wishes for an enjoyable and productive training. Sincerely,

Felix W. Ortiz Member of Assembly

I want to acknowledge the support from Dr. Ronald B. I am excited about working with leaders such as Joyce Thomas, Administrator for ACF Region II, Honorable Felix Ortiz, State of New York, Ms. Carlis V. Williams, Administrator for ACF Region IV, and others as to provide a mid-year professional development and capacity building assistance opportunity within the East Region. Highlights of this conference include a national certification, multi-cultural healthy marriage plenary sessions, innovative approaches to working with diverse families, addressing childhood obesity and the role fathers impact healthy and fit children, program evaluation and best practices, and how policy impacts practice. The first day will provide continuing education units from National Association of Social Work through our Fatherhood Practitioner & Healthy Relationship Educator-Facilitator Certificate targeted for nonprofits, foundations, faith-based entities and workers who are seeking new approaches to acquire skills they need to help their organizations meet growing needs. We understand that at nonprofit organizations, employees and leaders learn fundamentally by undertaking. This is a practitioner and faculty led program that teaches the techniques of effective direct practice to program staff, administrators and other professionals. As a division of the Fathers & Families Coalition of America, The Instructional Council assisted with the development of the content that is academically rigorous but also highly practical. We specialize in providing professional development that is thoroughly grounded in best practice. Our content is delivered by highly qualified social workers, faculty, researchers, administrators and practitioners who are nationally recognized for their expertise and credentials and excel at providing our clients with a practical and in-depth learning experience. Our curriculum is designed to provide clients with training that establishes a fundamental baseline of knowledge that calibrates individuals and organizations to recognize high performance opportunities and identify the issues and challenges that face every paraprofessional, professional and organization. The core dynamics of the program will have a focus on the following: The Role of Fathers on Child Development; Developing Culturally Appropriate Programs; Skills to Provide Services for African American-Latino-Native American-Asian American Fathers and Families; Working with Correctional Systems-Incarcerated and Re-Entry Fathers; Working with Child Welfare Systems; Working with Child Support and Other Systems; Developing Effective Healthy Relationship-Marriage Services; Facilitation Skills for Practitioners; Evaluating Practice and Program Outcomes; Creating a Quality Assurance Plan. The Regional Summer Institutes are an example of local and regional leadership to introduce some of the nations foremost experts in both Fatherhood & Healthy Relationship/Marriage Program Designs.
