I. INTRODUCTION

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a free education program implemented by the Department of Education
(DepEd) under the Bureau of Alternative System (BALS) which benefits those who cannot afford formal schooling and follows
whatever is the available schedule. Alternative Learning System is a program o DepEd whose mean objective is to provide a
chance for those out school youth, drop outs and adults to pursue and have an education that offers both non-formal and
informal sources of knowledge and skills.

ALS is bringing education to where the learners, who are considered the least, last and lost in our society. The
program provides a viable alternative to the existing formal education instruction, encompassing both the non-formal and
informal sources of knowledge and skills. The Alternative Learning System has two major programs the A&E program and the
Basic Literacy Program. These program aims to reach the unreached, to serve underserved individuals in terms of education.

The program has two different schematics for conducting instruction: school-based and community-based. On the school-
based program, instructions are conducted in school campuses while in the community-based program, formal instruction are
conducted in community halls or on private places. The ALS program follows uniform lesson modules for all academic subjects
covering the sciences, mathematics, English, Filipino, social studies, current events among others. Deliveries of instructions are
provided by government-paid instructors or by private non-government organization.
Aside from schematics, the program has two levels: elementary and secondary. Students have to start from elementary
level, and then proceed to high school level. If a student is a graduate of elementary under a formal classroom system, the
student is automatically admitted to the secondary levels depending on which year level the student stopped schooling.

This program by the government helped a lot of people who wants to change the direction of their lives for the better. It is like
giving another chance to make them feel worthy of their own self and as a citizen of this country.

IV. ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN

a. Monitoring of Learners Progress

Before every class discussion the assigned Instructional manager and Mobile Teacher will conduct pretests, to track on how much the
learners know the topics to be delivered.
Exercises were injected in the middle of the discussions to check if the learners had grasps and understood the lesson given.
Post Tests were given after the discussion to measure their understanding towards the lesson.
b. Recommendation for Improvement
As a Mobile teacher, it is an advantage for the learners to expose them to different activities that will lead them to be more active in ALS
program and it is a big advantage for the learners in ALS to have a permanent Inclusive environment that is accessible for the learner.

V. IMPACT OF THE PROGRAM

A. On the learners

Most of the learners in ALS programs are failed to continue their schooling because of financial and other problems, but then they say that
ALS is the way to make them feel that they are not left behind In terms of learning.

B. Implementers

As implementers of this program, we can say that Alternative Learning System is really helpful for us as teachers because it help us grow
professionally and emotionally as an individual. We are very much sure that all the ALS implementers also feel the same. There are plenty
of challenges in implementing the program but all of these are just a piece of cake if the implementers will put their whole mind and heart
into it.
C. On the Community

For the community, the implementation of ALS is also helpful because it can lessen the number of illiterates, juvenile delinquency, and even
unemployment. Through the basic literacy program of ALS, youth and adults who do not know how to read, write and count will be given
opportunity to acquire these basic skills. If out-of-school youths will enroll themselves in A&E Program, they will not only learn
academically but also they will learn good values and learn the importance of life thus juvenile delinquency will be lessen.
