 PRESENT SYSTEM
All foreigners including foreigners of Indian origin visiting India for long term needs
to register within 14 days of arrival

Foreigner visiting on business/Entry(X) visa doesn’t require to register if his stay

doesn’t exceed 180 days. If he intends to stay more than 180 days he need to register
before 180 days expire.

Children below 16 years – No Registration

Registration facility available at office of FRRO and office of DSP(FRO)

 PRESENT SYSTEM

Change of Registered address- Foreigners have to notify to office of FRRO/FRO

If absent from his registered address for more then 8 weeks, he need to inform to his
Registration Officer

If stays for a period more than 8 week in any other location than registered, needs to
be intimated to Registration Officer of that region

Foreigner about to depart from India shall surrender his Certificate of Registration
either to the Registration Officer of the place where he registered or of the place from
where he intends to depart or to the Immigration Officer at the Port/Check post of exit
at the time of final departure

 India is soft target of terrorist attack for the last 2 decades

 Lack of Integration in existing systems
 Require person to register within 14 days- quite long period for
any antisocial element to conspire against national security
 Does not track movement of foreigners within Country
 Mass migration to India from neighboring countries like
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal
 Surging cases of crime involving foreigners, especially in areas
frequented by foreigners
 Travel Agents, guides and local hotel owners demand exorbitant
prices from the tourists for their services
